Show Brigham City, Utah Thursday, March 3, 1977 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, 16 From Box Elder Plymouth Ponderings Seniors join in USU testing Kirt A. Enright, Scott Frost, Robert S. Hooper, Ken Jones, Scott Miller, Kevin Peterson and Thomas Scharton, all Box Elder High school seniors, were among approximately 300 outstanding high school seniors who spent two days at Utah State university recently acquainting themselves with the campus, meeting faculty mem- bers and taking competitive examinations. High school seniors from throughout the United States traveled to Logan to compete for five University club scholarships worth $5,000 each. To be invited to the competition, the seniors had to be in the top five percentile on American College Test scores or be in National Merit scholarship competition. The exams helped university officials decide which students will receive the university scholarships. Over the six years that the competition has been in ef- semi-finalis- students chat with USU's School Relations representative Swede Larson prior to taking tests for five $5,000 University club scholarships. They are: sitting, Scott Frost and Ken Jones; standing, Kevin Peterson, Robert Hooper and Scott Miller. BOX ELDER HIGH ts Fielding Flashes! Families attend Logan wedding by Flo Munson Chris Hansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oleen Garn, claimed Kay White as his bride in a ceremony at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. Grant White in Logan Saturday morning. Judge VeNoy Christoffersen officiated at the double-rin- g ceremony in the presence of immediate members of both families. Attending from this area were parents of the groom of West Fielding, Ken Hansen of Salt Lake City, Julie Hansen of Bountiful and Jeanne Christensen of Brigham City. A buffet luncheon and small reception was held at the country club in Logan immediately following the ceremony for family members and close friends. Among those attending the reception in addition to those who attended the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. .Darvel Garn, President and Ms. Clive Mr. and Mrs. Stan Reese and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Buchanen of Garland. The newlyweds will make their home in Wellsville. Chris and Kay have their own business Earthworks Limited where they create their own ceramics, etc. Mrs. Lucille Potter accompanied by her sister Mrs. Elaine Stewart and her brother and sister-in-laMr. and Mrs. Arthur Manning of Ogden spent from Tuesday through Friday in St. George. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Barry Roche and family and other friends. Week In Washington Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Garn have returned from an enjoyable week vacation in Washington. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Burnett and family in Moses Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Garn and Mr. and Mrs. F. Leo Nye and family in Issaquah. The Gams were accompanied by their daughter Mrs. Carol Hess of Garland. Mr. and Mrs. F. Leo Nye and family accompanied their houseguests to Puget Sound where they went by ferry to Fort Casey where they enjoyed a delightful picnic under the trees. The weather was fabulous, just like summer. Mrs. Madge Anderson returned home Wednesday after a three-wee- k vacation in California and Nevada. She was in Santa Rosa with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas (Sharon) Rytting who have a new baby girl. She attended sacrament meeting where the baby was blessed by her father when she was only five days old and given the name of Julie Ann Rytting. Mrs. Anderson also spent sometime with her and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Janet) Leming in Over-toThe Leming's have their first child, a boy. He will be named Jayson Loyd Leming. Mrs. Charles Pulver and daughter Michelle visited Mrs. Dennis (Geniel) Yeates and family of Logan Saturday. Overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Garn Saturday were their grandson and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Nye and daughter Krista of Provo. son-in-la- Have Visitors Visiting Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Mason during the week were their grandson Ross Thomas and his wife of Salt Lake City. Mrs. Doris Smith accompanied by Mrs. LaDene Benson of Tremonton enjoyed dinner at a downtown restaurant in Logan Friday. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Udy and family Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. LaVar Godfrey and daughters Kathy, Lori and JoEllen of Kaysville. Miss Enid Welling of Seattle has arrived to spend a couple of weeks visiting her mother Mrs. Edith Welling. Mr. and Mrs. Asael Godfrey have been spending a few days in North Salt Lake City caring for their grandson Shane Hubbard while Shanes mother Mrs. Scott Hubbard was in the McKay hospital with a new baby boy born Feb. 22. Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. DeVere Adams along with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hedrick of Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Ray McMurdie of Logan met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gordon in Smithfield with a lovely prepared meal to honor them on their 57th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Gale Welling and visited their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Todd Peterson and family in Newton Sunday. Visiting Mrs. Alene Sutherland the forepart of the week were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sutherland and son Paul of Ogden. They alos visited Mrs. Voylet Grover. Saturday dinner guests at the Holt home of were Mr.and.-iMrs-. Jack Holt and son Mark of Bountiful. Enjoying dinner with Mrs. Rachel Burton Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Crane and son Matthew of Herriman and Mr. and Mrs. Todd Garbanati and daughter Amy of Snowville. Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Smith and children of Shelly spent the weekend visiting Mrs. Mildred Smith. They also visited Mrs. Nellie Barnard in Tremonton. son-in-la- Thursday Visitors Thursday visitors at the home of Mrs. Alene Sutherland were Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Keyes of Ogden. A large group attended the concert at the Bear River High school Thursday evening where the choirs from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and Bear River High school participated. Gerry Greaver and Todd Morris were overnight guests of President and Mrs. Donald Petersen. Marge Christiansen and Jolene Hughes were overnight guests of President and Mrs. Clive Garn, John Gochberg and Bob Menzel remained overnight with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Udy and Jan Sorenson and Laurie McMullen spent the night with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Wilcox. Mrs. Flo Munson, Mrs. Helen Mason accompanied by Mrs. Nettie Lott of Bothwell visited Mrs. Scott (Susan) Hubbard and her new baby boy at the McKay hospital in Ogden Tuesday afternoon. Marvin and Karen Udy Hansen of Mendon announce the arrival of a baby girl born Feb. 15. They have one son and three daughters at home. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. LaRon Udy of West Fielding and Mr. and Mrs. Moses Hansen of Murray. Great grandparents are Fred Coombs of Fielding, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Udy of West Fielding. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Claude Allred and family during the week were Mr. and Mrs. Ivo Christensen of Tooele. Friday Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Godfrey visited Darrells mother Mrs. Vivian Godfrey in Clarkston who was observing her 78th birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Karl King and family spent a few days last weekend visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Smith and family in Shelly, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Thayne Jones spent Saturday in Salt Lake City. In Harper Ward Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Welling visited Mrs. Wellings parents Mr. and Mrs. Grant Nicholas and family in Harper Ward and attended sacrament meeting with them. Sunday Mrs. Helen Jensen and Mrs. Dean Archibald enjoyed dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Darrell (Nikki) Allen and fam ily in Clinton. The occasion the Allen twins, Zak and Andy were celebrating their fourth birth- days. The Marrieds held a party at the ward building Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Udy as chairman. Committee members were Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Welling, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Garn, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rudd and Mr. and Mrs. Rick Kent. Dinner was served to 20 couples afterwhich games were played. Saturday evening President Don Petersen and son Tom and Karl King and son Michael attended the Eagle Scout banquet held at the Weber State college in Ogden. Enjoying Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Whiting in Plymouth were Mr. and Mrs. Thayne Jones and family. Mr. and Mrs. Wynn Zundel attended the state wrestling tournament in Salt Lake City Wednesday through Friday where their son Kurt partici- pated. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Udy, Verl Udy, Mr. and Ms. Claude Allred accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Holdaway of Bothwell were among those who attended the state finals in horse racing held at West Jordon Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Betty Petersen of Provo spent the weekend visiting her mother Mrs. Donetta Petersen. Miss Connie Rudd spent the weekend visiting her parents Bishop and Mrs. Ross Rudd and family. Connie is enrolled at Ricks college in Rexburg. Here for Services Mr. and Mrs. Oris Rudd of Ontario, Ore. and their daughter Vicky Rudd, a student at Ricks college in Rexburg have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Clark Rudd. Mr. and Mrs. Oris Rudd were called to Tremonton due to the death of Mrs. Rudds mother Mrs. Irene Roe Bunder-son- . Funeral services were held in the Tremonton stake center Monday with Bishop E. Darrell Lewis conducting. Burial was in the Tremonton Riverview cemetery. Bishop and Mrs. Ross Rudd spent Friday in Salt Lake City visiting their daughter Miss Ronda Rudd. Mrs. Flo Munson and E. Forrest Munson attended a testimonial in the Bothwell ward chapel Sunday evening honoring Elder Larry Stokes, son of DeLon and Karen Stokes, prior to his leaving to fulfill an LDS Mission in Glasgow, Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Mason enjoyed dinner at the Loft House in Logan Wednesday. The occasion was E.C. Masons birthday anniversary. Miss Annette Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Scott is recuperating from an appendectomy which she underwent at the Bear River Valley hospital in Tremonton last week. Thursday evening Mr, a Mrs. Don Scott entertained at dinner party at Chases Char coal Dinner House in Tremon-- t ton honoring their son Carl and his fiance Miss Penny Katha-lene Shaffer. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Randy Hess and daughters Suzanne and Shari-anJulie Ann Hess, Ronnie,' Dennis, Christine, Diane and J.D. Scott. 1 Friday Carl Scott claimed Miss Penny Kathalene Shaffer of Salt Lake City as his bride in a twilight ceremony at the home of the grooms parents with Bishop Richard Petersen officiating. Attending the ceremony were immediate members of the families and a few close friends. A buffet luncheon was enjoyed immediately following the ceremony. Peterson, 126 East Seventh North, is a member of National Honor society, treasurer of Electronics club and is first chair clarinet in Concert Band. He plans to study electrical or chemical engineering. Thomas, son of John and Phoebe Ann Scharton, 972 Wildwood, is a member of DeMolay, National Honor society, Spanish club and .Young Democrats. He won the General Mills Family Leader of the Future test at BEHS and was a Sterling Scholar nominee in foreign languages. He plans to major in pre-la- Boulder City, Nev. Mrs. Thompson also had lots of callers during the afternoon including Mrs. Vern Deakin of Tremonton and Mrs. Dick Owen of Plymouth. Marching Band, Pep Band, National Rifle association and rifle team and is a scout. He has achieved honor roll and is active in the programs of his church. Robert, son of Roy S. Hooper Jr., 1077 Orchard, is a member of DeMolay and has participated in Chess, German and Key clubs.
