Show I i Face Bears tonight second in mat contest In a tightly contested y wrestling meet. Box Elder finished second just a point behind host Hillcrest Tuesday evening on the Huskies mat. It was Viewmont in third place in this prep action that featured three of the state's teams. The scores were Hillcrest, 50; Box Elder, 49, and Viewmont, 4-- 45. Breaking the meet into dual competition, the Bees tied Hillcrest and defeated Viewmont. The whole thing left Bee Coach Ron Wolff smiling. We looked better than we have all season. Out kids just performed great. Bruce Hubbard (107) turned in an outstanding match. Todd Williams (112) lost both matches against tough kids. Mike Christensen (121). Mike Hatch (139), Jeff Hardy (147), and Jerry Jensen (155) all did excellent jobs. Any time you put three good teams together, youll have a great show. Tonight we got just that. We lost six matches by one point, four were in the final 15 seconds. We lacked that little mental edge. When you lose beat opponents by one less than necessary for additional points, you weren't ready mentally. We will be ready for our big s, Ill dual meets, guarantee that, Coach Wolff commented after. To Meet Bears Gloom thicker action is 7 p.m. and 5.30 p m. for junior varsity action. Junior varsity competition at Hillcrest did not produce team scores but the Bees claimed five matches. Here are the varsity results: 64-4- 8 at Roy. The Hive guys now stand on the season. Roy is on the reverse side with a 10-- mark. Theres little to say about the Jay Snow (V) pinned Jay Rosa 55. The host Royals were obviously not running a fever over their meeting with Box Elder. The result was a sloppy first half in which they made numerous mistakes, shot poorly and were held to a standstill on the boards. But the Bees, not to be outdone, piled one error on top of another and turned in a poor mark in fielding shooting. They lead early jumped off to a and stretched it to before Roy finally came back to claim the advantage, just seconds before halftime. 43 114 Gary Takagi (H) dec Todd Williams (BE), Jerry Yaussi (V) dec Yaussi dec Williams, Takagi. 121 Stuart Walker (H) dec Dave Mike Christensen (BE) Shulberg (V). It was junior Jeff Scholtec who did the damage deep while 5 Curtis Munford collecting apiece and Steve Yagi netting to pace the Bee scoring. The box score: 12 10 Not Often Enough On this occasion, and its happened before, Box Elder failed to put the ball up or in often enough. They shot just 38 times from the field, making 13 (just five fielders in the first half) for an average of 34 percent. Meanwhile, Roy, while shooting only 33 percent, took 62 shots, hitting on 21 of them. The Royals were physical and, after putting things in order, made few mistakes. It all contributed to the Box Elder loss. The Bees take a breather from play now until Jan. 21 when theyll host Bear River is what looms as a battle for the basement of Region One.
