Show i Ono man's opinion Opposes fluoridation Local UNICEF BOX drive ELDER Editor: Frank Howard, 535 South Second East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111 Get us out The statement released by the Utah State Board of Health (dated June 10, 1978) in support of the proposed fluoridation regulations stated that fluoride prevents tiental disease by strengthening tooth enamel. This is simply not supported by scientific evidence; indeed, fluoride does exactly the ,1 opposite. The Utah State Board of Health is distributing a booklet i published by the American Dental association (1974, 23 pp) which states that except for dental fluorosis, no harmful results...- - occur from drinking fluoridated water at the levels recommended for dental protection. The booklet even cites one scientific paper which reported dental fluorosis in a population drinking water with 0.9 ppm of fluoride or less. Just what is this harmful effect of dental fluorosis" which the public health authorities admit will occur among children drinking fuloridated water at the recommended levels? The medical dictionary states that chronic endemic dental fluorosis is found in communities using a drinking water that contains one part or more of flourine per million. The . permanent teeth of children so raised tend to erupt more or less chalky white in color and later tend to become pitted... A reference cited by the American Dental Assocation booklet (Underwood, E.J.: Trace Elements in Human and nimal Nutrition, Academic Press, 1971, p. 396) defines chornic endemic dental fluorosis as being characterized by chalky-whit- e patches distributed irregularly over the surface of the tooth. The enamel is structurally weak, and in severe !it:i cases there is a loss of enamel accompanied by pitting. .Therefore, fluoride actually damages and weakens the enamel at the level recommended and the contention by the Utah State Board of Health that fluoridation prevents i disease by strengthening tooth enamel is an egregious I error. Editor: What would an United Nations do about education? The global master planners have an answer for that, too. In 1960, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural organization (UNESCO) prepared an international treaty on education. Congressional critics prevented its adoption by the United States when they warned that the treaty would deliver the entire American educational system into UNESCO international control. However, during the past 13 years the US Office of Education and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare have begun implementing every major proposal in the treaty! This includes massive busing of children, federal financing and then federal control of all schools, and the use of UN materials in our classrooms. This growing UN control of our schools is another reason why patriotic Americans must begin petitioning their Representatives to get us out! Yours truly, David Kafton 585 South Sixth West Brigham City - Freedom different to UN Editor: The statement released by the Utah Board of Health also claims that at one part per million the teeth are made more attractive because of an opalescence which appears. They would have the public believe that the general milkly appearance and chalky-whit- e patches of dental fluorosis (caused by fluoride) makes the teeth more attractive! This may be so, if one prefers white chialky splotches on teeth. My wife has such opalescences and they are a source of enbarrassment to her. Many sources may contribute to the total fluoride intake of children. It is now frequently added to baby foods, canned foods, toothpastes, tooth powders, chewing gums, mouthwashes, vitamin supplements and some drugs and medications. The diet may contribute substantial levels of fluoride, particularly in Utah valley where environmental pollution has resulted in severe crippling fluorosis among farm animals (Shupe, J.L: Amer. Ind. Hyg. Assoc. J. 31:240-7- , j against) your government officials in short, to make your owp. decisions about your own life. .bv' ButRtiffMKkan means something quite different to the United Nations. The freedom it promotes is doing whatever v the state says! The UN has never done anything while the Communists assault religious freedom, destroy the sanctity of the family, abrogate property rights, and abolish free elections. Jt has, in fact, continuously cooperated with every part of these Communist campaigns. An United Nations would mean sacrificing every principle Americans revere. This is another compelling reason why we should petition Congress to get us out of the UN. Sincerely, Keith N. Bradbury, 63 North Second East Espionage center Editor: s The United Nations headquarters in New York is without doubt the major center for communist espionage activities throughout North America. Yet the UN has never done anything to protect its host country, the United States, from the criminal activities of its delegates. The FBI has personnel at estimated that some 80 percent of Soviet-blo- c the United Nations are espionage agents, not diplomats at all. And now, with the admission of Red China, thousands more Red spies will receive immunity from arrest or prosecution. That the United Nations is a crucial Communist espionage center should surprise no one. After all, of the 17 Americans who had key roles in formulating the early polices of the UN, ail but one were subsequently identified as Communists. Heading the list was the first UN secretary general convicted perjurer Alger Hiss. Such traitorous betrayal of this country is another reason why a concerted national petition drive to get us out of the UN is essential. 408 Sincerely yours, Robert Chaves, North Sixth East Brigham City srii ''Jciuajit'1 nuioono ifcjiilw faiftbne32 nsfcjG i treats for organizations, and individuals. To Treats for other of world's young -- Brigham City, Utah Thursday, October 28, 1976 Editor: Im going to vote for Jimmy Carter, and Ill tell you why. Here in a nutshell (or peanut shell, to be more precise) are the reasons: 1. There is a difference between Carter and Ford, and I like the difference. 2. Carter is get up and go, Ford is wait and see. 3. Carter says decisions determine events, Ford allows events to determine decisions. 4. Carter is flexible and fbrsees the future in terms of the common man. 5. Ford is rigid and will fight to maintain the status quo in terms of the present. 6. Carter will upset the applecart, while Ford will continue to polish the big ones at the top. . You see, the difference is a glaring one. G-EL- Cai1l6a9iNtMv ECT Editor: October is United Nations month and each year I keep wondering why are we still a member of this organization? How can an organization literally controlled by the Communists be of any benefit to our country or the rest of the world? The UN charter is a treaty, and the Supreme Court has ruled that a treaty supersedes the guarantees and safeguards of our constitution. In 1953, the Bricker amendment, which provided that no treaty could take precedence over these constitutional safeguards, was defeated by the Senate by one vote. It may well be that we are even now technically at the mercy of the UN, although there is as yet no way for the body , to enforce its will. The US and the Soviet Union have been negotiating in disarmament talks for years, the ultimate goal to be a phase out of armed forces and armaments into a United Nations peace keeping force. Under the charter of the UN this international peace force, with its nuclear weapons, would be under the command of the under secretary general for political and security council affairs, who has control over all UN military affairs. Unfortunately for US, this post has by agreement always been held by a soviet national. Oh, well, by agreement an American gets to control mosquito abatement projects. Fairs fair, you know! GE U.
