Norma is (Mittelstaedt) parents were both born and raised in Prussia, Germany, so it comes naturally for Norma to have many choice German recipes. Today, she shares some with Box Elder Journal readers. She graduated from East High school in Salt Lake City afterwhich she was employed in a drug store and as a checker in a supermarket. Since her marraige to Ron they have lived in Garland, Salt Lake City, Layton, Woods Cross, Brigham City and finally came to Tremonton nine years ago. The Ogboms have three daughters and one son 13; Doreen, 10; Diane, 6, and Roger, 4. Police Chief Ogborn is well liked in Bear River valley. He radiates friendliness and is always willing to help. Loves Work At the present time Norma is employed as an assistant to J.K. Tebbs, DDS, in Tremonton. "I love my work she said enthusiastically. I meet such interesting people". The Ogboms are an active family. They thoroughly enjoy camping, fishing, boating, water skiiing and Norma and Ron ar both fond of bowling. Norma also enjoys sewing for her family, knitting, crocheting and embroidery work. She is a lay leader in the Methodist church and takes over the church service in the absence of the minister. She is also chairman of the Bible school. I enjoy cooking she said emphatically. I cook lots of German dishes some my family like, some they dont. I prepare many meals for large gatherings. We have lots of family and holiday parties. IN?S . . . Mrs. Ron Ogborn cooks German dishes De-bra- h, Could never cook Norma laughingly recalls, I was never, but never allowed to cook while I was living with my parents, so naturally when Ron and I were married I was inexperienced in preparing meals. I remember my first bread making. Something drastic happened. Im not quite sure what it was, only instead of having three loaves which the recipe called for I ended up with one' small loaf. Some said it could be used for a door stop, a heavy paper weight and Ron agreed it was heavy enough to be an anchor. It was so pretty too, Norma added, a real golden brown. But Experience through the years have made Norma a fantastic cook and homemade bread is a must in the Ogborn household. She does lots of baking which includes various kinds 'of delicious pies. Below are some of Norma's favorite recipes. 1 (a German recipe) Thin sliced round steak, onions, bacon, salt and pepper. Cut steak into 4ths, salt and pepper meat. Chop onions and bacon Place 1 T. of each in center of meat. Roll up and tie with white string or screwers. Brown in small amount of shortening until VERY BROWN on all side. After browning place enough water in pan to cover meat. Simmer approx. 5 hours or until tender. Use broth for flour gravy. Unwrap string and serve. Each slice makes 4 rolladens. 4-- t SCHMORKOHL (a German Recipe) , Mrs. Nebeker, who recently returned from a vacation in Massachusetts, presented the program. She told of visiting the homestead in Amherst of the n poet Emily Dickenson. She also showed a collection of pictures of historic points of interest and famous paintings by popular artists.
