I dare say that the one room, in the house that has seen the most changes down through the years is the kitchen. Im sure if our great grandmothers or even our grandmothers were put in ne of our modern kitchens and told to go ahead and get dinner they wouldn't know where to begin. She was paid a special tribute by the Relief society of her ward and a number of neighbors dropped in to extend best wishes. On Sunday their son and daughter-in-laMr. and Mrs. Howard Bott took them to dinner in Logan. When I talked with Bott Tuesday he told me that they were in the process of selling their home and would be moving to Ogden in the near future. Sunday was birthday time for Mrs. Daisy Hansen who observed her 85th anniversary with a birthday dinner at the home of a son and daughter-in-laMr. and Mrs. Jay C. Hansen. Her two sons Don and Jay were there as well as nieces and date for temple wedding Mr. and Mrs. Loyal D. Green of Las Vegas, Nev., an nounce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Wanda to David E. Baird, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orrin E. Baird of Brigham City. Miss Green is a graduate of Rancho High school, Las Vegas, and of LDS Seminary. She has attended Rcks college and is currently employed in Salt Lake City. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Box Elder High school and LDS Seminary. He fulfilled an LDS mission in Brisbane, Australia. He is presently employed in Salt Lake City, where he is also attending LDS Business college. March 12 has been circled by the young couple for their .. wedding date in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They will be honored at a reception March 13 in the Brigham City north stake center. They will also be honored at an open house held in Los Vegas in April. Mrs. Naomi Braithwaite says, I always bake at' least a dozen or more loaves of bread each week. You see, Naomi and her husband Garth are parents of five daughters and four sons. As parents of nine, I always felt it more economical to have home-mad- e bread and save both electricity and energy by baking enough for our needs at one time. Often I would bake bread twice a week when all of our ' family was home, she said smilingly. She spent her childhood in Delta, later attending high school and Weber State college in Ogden. She was employed doing secretarial work in the credit department at Sears, Roebuck and Company, both in Salt Lake City and Ogden. After her marriage to Garth they lived in Los Angeles for five years. I was so happy to move back to Utah, she said We love living in Brigham City. enthusiastically. home at 518 South They have a lovely Seventh West. I read the other day that in one respect the old fashioned kitchen was superior to the modern one they had old fashioned cooks in them. It went on to say that nowadays less things., are thought out in the kitchen than thawed out. It seems that the craze has caught on everywhere but in the kitchen. Now if you have room lets pull up that old easy chair in the kitchen this morning and have our little party line chat while you begin getting your lunch. w nephews, grandchildren and Mrs. Iva Lou Nebeker celebrated her birthday with visits from her children and their families over the weekend. On Saturday there was a birthday dinner at the family home which included Mr. and Mrs. Keith Higginson and children Paul and Susan of Boise, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Borto-lusbrought two Shawn and Jason from Salt Lake City and joined Mr. and Mrs. Byron Nebeker of Willard for the observance. On Sunday Mrs. Nebeker traveled with the Higginsons to Provo to visit their son Steven who is attending BYU. See Hawaii , Just back from a delightful week in Hawaii are Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hall of this city and their son David of Bountiful. They spent three days in Hono- macadaminanut plantations and saw the bread fruit trees from which poy is made. Their trip in the glass bottomed boats to the Captain Cooks statue was most interesting. When I talked with Mrs. Hall Tuesday I was interested to learn that her brother and cioter-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. Lee w Art Guild meet on T uesday will Wasatch Art Guild will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. in Box Elder Junior High school art department. Business for the evening will include the election of officers. The program will be a basic drawing lesson by Carol MacCandless, art teacher at Box Elder Junior High school. While they were there they proved once again it's a small world after all. While the Halls were walking along a street on Waikiki, they ran into Mr. and Mrs. Ezra D. Harper of Corinne. The Harpers . were on their way home with a son who had just finished an LDS Mission in Japan. The Halls visited the Polynesian Cultural center, and visited the BYU of Hawaii. They saw their niece, Carol Ann Anderson, daughter of the Dr. Wynn Andersens of this city who is onl the Semester Abroad program from BYU in Provo. They flew to Kona and stayed at the Kona Sand Hotel right on the beach. They took a bus tour inland and were especially interested in the huge coffee and . Friday, Feb. 20, at Maddox Ranch House. It wouldnt seem so strange if the .reverse hadn't been true about a year ago and lots of molasses could be found but the soy sauce was nil. Talking to other family shoppers is at least assuring that it isnt ju'--t a personal problem, for it seems that everyone has the problem of getting it off their mind (and off the grocery list) that the cupboard is bare of some item while forgetting to conput some other little-use- d diment on the list. For instance, this writer continually runs out of cinnamon so decided to buy the biggest can available. Italian seasoning, 1 8oz. tomato sauce or paste, 1 bay leaf, V4 tsp. basil, garlic salt. Combine and simmer 1V4 hrs. Cook noodles in salted water. Drain. In casserole dish pour a little sauce and then layer of noodles, grated mozeralla cheese, cottage cheese (combined with egg), parmesian cheese and grated cheddar cheese. Repeat. She has served as president of the Relief society and is currently teaching the Mia Maid group in APYW. She admits being interested in genealogy work but has never had time to devote to it. Pare apples. Quarter and cut in small slices. Sift together flour, salt and b. p., Cut in shortening. Add milk. Stir evenly moistened. Roll y4 in. thick. Sprinkle apples over, add sprinkles of sugar and cinnamon. Roll up as jelly roll. Cut in slices. Arrange in a baking pan and pour the syrup below. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 min. Serve with cream or icecream. SYRUP: 2 c. sugar, 2 c. water, V4 c. butter, Vi tsp. cinnamon. Dissolve sugar in water and boil. Add cinnamon and butter. Simmer 5 min. 1 COCONUT CHIP BARS c. butter, Vi c. sugar, Vi c. br. sugar, 3 egg yolks, 1 tsp. vanilla. Combine the above and blend well. Then sift together and add: 2 c. flour, 1 tsp. b. p., Vi tsp. salt, Vi Up. soda, Place this mixture in bottom of 13 X 9 pan (greased) Beat 3 egg whites until frothy and add I c. br. sugar until it holds iU shape. Sprinkle 1 6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips over first misture in pan. Next 1 c. coconut. Then yt c. chopped nuts followed by egg mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 min.
