GOLDEN GLOW SALAD 24 c. pineapple juice, marshmallows, pkg. lemon jello (small) 1 12 c. boiling water, c. crushed pineapple c. grated raw carrot, 1 pkg. cream cheese (small) Melt marshmallows in hot juice over low heat, folding until smooth. Cool. Mix jello and boiling water, cool until syrupy. Blend together pineapple, carrot, cheese. Add and mix all ingredients. Pour into mold and set until firm. 1 47 South Main 723-590- 0 5 c. brown sugar, 4 eggs, Vi c. butter, 1 small can (2 c) pumpkin, d c. sifted flour, Vi tsp. baking Vi c. oil, 2 and powder, 2 tsp. soda, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. cloves, 1 tsp. nutmeg, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1 c. chopped walnuts. Cream butter and eggs. Beat until fluffy. Add oil and pumpkin. Beat thoroughly. Sift dry ingredients together twice and add, beating well. Add floured nuts. Bake in 2 loaf pans at 325 degrees for 1 hr. and 10 min. Glaze with icing, if desired. Add Vi c. pumpkin as part of liquid to make powdered sugar icing. 2 Phone Foothill Juniors Foothill school Junior Girl Scout Troop held its first meeting on Monday, Oct. 27, at Gillespie Hall. There they met their new leader, Carolyn Lee, and planned events for the coming season. A lively discussion followed the presentation of the lesson. Joan Bell was a guest for the evening, with the hostess serving refreshments to all following the conclusion of the meeting. On Oct. 15 the chapter held its model meeting at the home of Colleen Burr in Brigham City. Following a short business meeting, Barbara Bingham presented a lesson entitled This is My Country. Edna Moore Schultz Were having a Halloween party at our house hosted by our young granddaughter and Id forgotten the excitement and planning that goes into the event. Morris, the cat, climbs up to hiss at the cardboard cats on our windows and strange pumpkin faces stare vacantly from the corner. I cant get over the feeling Im being watched by all the erie figures. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and I still get a kick out of the costumed figures that come. It's too bad it couldnt remain a friendly little neighborhood venture like it used to be, instead of trick and treat marathon to see who can get the most loot in his shopping bag. But Halloween is definitely for the young and as Billy Arthur said, You are only young once. After that you have to think up some other excuse. Thats why Im real glad our granddaughter wanted to have a party so I can enjoy the fun from the sidelines. Babies Named gavel for the Brigham City Golf and Country Club womens auxiliary at the annual awards banquet held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Country club, with retiring president Cill Sparks making the presentation. Also installed as officers for the coming season were Charlene Goodliffe, vice president; Maxine Nelson, secretary; Sue Gentry, treasurer; and directors Hazel Packer, LuAnn Dodd and Sharon Brailsford. Cill Sparks walked away with most of the club trophies for season play, both as club champion and city champion, as well as having taken the Northern Division championship for the 9 sons when I talked with her Tuesday. Elmo Lish, and Mr. and Mrs. Herm Hadfield motored to Sunset Saturday night where former Brighamites, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keller entertained their dinner club at their home. Also joining the group was another former Brigham City couple Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Price who now make their home in Clearfield. Have News Mr. and Mrs. Cam Longley n, ing in Boise and Nampa, Idaho are Mr. and Mrs. Don H. Valentine. They were house-guesof Mrs. Bertha Valentine and son William in Nampa for a few days then traveled to Nys-sand Ontario, Ore., returning home through Jerome, Idaho where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hendry. ts are maintaining their usual busy pace during the fall season. Visiting with them for a few days during the hunting season has been their Wayne Solomon of Buffalo, N. Y. He has spent two weeks in Utah. Also visiting has been Mrs. Hazel Harrison of Yuma, Ariz. and Mrs. Letha Wink of Hermis-ton- , Ore. While the visitors were here they were all dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Anderson at their home here. Last weekend the Longleys and the Clair Knudsens spent a relaxing weekend in Salt Lake City as a break in a busy schedule. Tuesday night the Longleys and the James A. Browns enjoyed dinner out together to celebrate Mrs. Browns recent birthday anniversary. Buzzing Around Mrs. Dorothy Olsen is back from a month-lontour of California with friends Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ferguson of San Diego, Calif. She flew to San Diego and joined the Fergusons with their trailer and they took the coast highway for the tour. They stopped at Smith River for five days and went salmon fishing. They reached the Oregon coast, crossed the state into Idaho and then came on home. They stopped five days in Caldwell, Idaho to visit with friends. Mrs. Olsen told me Monday when I talked with her that she is loaded with interesting driftwood and rocks she gathered along the way which Id like to guess will find their way into a, son-in-la- w ' g Mrs. Dorothy Olsen had an exciting day last Sunday as she was on hand to see two of her named and blessed. The new baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Olsen was named Jorn Lewis and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Walker received the name Kate Ellen in services in the Sixth LDS Ward. Following the naming ceremonies Mr. and Mrs. Roger Olsen entertained at a buffet dinner at their home which included in the guests Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Hannum, and son Marshal, Mrs. Lucille Howes, Mrs. Ora Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Howes and children Dani and Rocky, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Olsen and baby, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nelson and daughter Amber, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Don Lewis Olsen, greatgrandmother, Mrs. Dorothy Olsen all of this city and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Andersen and children Curtis, Denise, Debbie and William of Ogden. Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whitten hosted a dinner at their home for the Dave Walkers and their children Sarah and recently named Kate. Mr. and Mrs. Craig Walker and children Jennifer, Jason and Emily and Brent and Brian Walker. The Roger Olsens and their guests were also included in the dinner party and the families spent the afternoon visiting between the Olsens and Whittens. Visits Grandmother Miss Lisa Zundel spent the Veterans day weekend in Brigham City visiting her grandmother Mrs. Mabel Forsgren. She lives in Salt Lake while she is attending school at the University of Utah. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil (Jean) Zundel of Richmond, Va. You my be sure of one of the topics of discussion during the visit was the recent birth of a baby boy to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth G. (Patricia) Lee of Washington, D.C. This is the couples first child and the grandchild of the Neil Zundels. Sharing honors in this city are Mrs. Forsgren and Eberhart Zundel. They have chosen the name of Jonathan Ammon for the baby boy. Mrs. Forsgren commented about having five great grand pre- sented with the presidents By Ruth PEANUT BRITTLE 1 c. white corn syrup, Vi c. water, 2 c. sugar, 2 c. raw Spanish peanuts, Vi T. butter, Vi tsp. salt, 2 tsp. vanilla, 2 tsp. soda, cook sugar, water and syrup to soft ball stage (spins 2 in. thread) Add peanuts. Continue to stir constantly until syrup turns golden color. Remove from heat. Klas, vice president of Continental Bank, and a citizen active in United Fund, Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce, Salt Lake County Hospital board, YMCA board of directors, Utah State Democratic committee and other civic responsibilities. All members are urged to attend this meeting, according to President Ruth Iverson. & DEVILED CHICKEN 2 y2 lbs. chicken drumsticks and thighs skinned. 1 tsp. salt, i2 tsp. pepper, 1 cup tomato sauce (see instructions below for making tomato sauce) 2 T. Worcestershire sauce, 2 tsp. prepared mustard, 1 , tsp. butter or butter flavoring. Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper. Brown on all sides. Cut 4 small slits in each piece of chicken. Transfer to baking dish. Combine tomato sauce, mustard and butter. Pour over chicken. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 min. or until cooked. Makes 4 servings. TOMATO SAUCE: 2 c. tomato juice, tsp. salt, y2 tsp. pepper, 1 tsp. parsley falkes, y2 tsp. basil leaves, 1 pkg. golden seasoning and broth or chicken broth mix. (If desired 1 chicken bouillon cube may be used) Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Cook over low heat until mixture is reduced by half. The Junior High school swimming pool is open for Girl Scout swimming on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., with a lifeguard in attendance for the sessions. It is open either to organized troop swimming or to individual girls. Girls are reminded that they need a permission slip if they do not have one on file with the lifeguard, 25 cents to cover custodian costs, and a swimming cap and suit. In fact most everything she makes turns out good. Layna is busy planning ahead for the Thanksgiving holidays when Krags brother and his wife and family of Oregon will be in Portage to spend the holidays with them. Krag was refering to his wife Layna Guymon Parker, of course! Layna spent her girlhood in American Fork where she graduated from high school and LDS seminary. She met Krag on a blind date at a high school party. Krag lived in nearby Lehi. After completing high school Layna attended the Continental Beauty college in Murray and was a licensed beautician for a year before her marriage. I dont know how we ever wound up in Portage, she said laughingly. Krag is employed with the Utah-Idah- o Sugar company. We found a home to rent in Portage and here we are! The Parkers have a little daughter Annjanette, 13 months old who is a cuddley, friendly, adorable little pixie. They are anxiously looking forward to the arrival of their second child. He was born on Oct. 10 and weighed seven pounds 15 ounces. The couple has three other children John Wendall, eight; Christine, six, and Anne, two years old. Grandparents are Mrs. Nancy Valberg Brigham City and Mr. and Mrs. Odell Julander, Mapleton. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Stud-dahave named their new baby boy David Jay. He was born on Oct. 10 and weighed seven pounds eight ounces. He has two big brothers and a sister Mark Andrew, six, Christopher, four, and Setphanie, one year old. Grandparents are Mr. nd Mrs. J. V. She also received the club honors for the most birdies of the season, and the gross championship award. Next on the trophy list was Alma Bryant, who walked away with the runner-u- p award in the club championship division, low putter prize, and the leg play award, as well as the club net honors. Club championship In the club championship tournament Fran Blackburn took third place in the champ- ionship flight behind Cill Sparks and Alma Bryant. In the directors flight, winners were Anna-beRicks, Annetta Ramos and Sharon Brailsford; while Val Wight, Bonnie Morgan and Pelham were winners in the masters flight. The coveted Most Improved Golfer award was presented to Bonnie Morgan, with Sue Gentry winning the trophy for the most points in team play during the season. Special awards sponsored by the club went to Scott Stevens as outstanding junior golfer and to Kathy Dodd as outstanding ior golf girl. Both received green fee passes. Bridge winners for the season ll Mar-gare- , were announced as Mamie Fruen, Jeanne Hinchman and Birdie Smith. The club also honored Tommy Williams, club pro; Si Wight, club caterer; and Benny Mark-langroundskeeper.
