Show c 4 Willard Wrapup Farmers Thursday, July set meeting for tonight Missionary Farmers returns BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah Sure sign of summer, Charlie's back in town by Arlene Holden Charlies back. Its a sure sign of summer when I can see that black blow snake gliding around the orchard. The first time I met Charlie, I was, to put it Biblically, with child. Imagine if you can, an eight and half month pregnant lady sitting on the uppermost branches of an apple tree balancing on one of the smaller twigs while an unconcerned snake slithers away and youve got the picture. Husband, when he stopped laughing so hard, got a ladder and helped me down. Its hard to believe someone is really sincere when he says I'm sorry you got such a scare when he's laughing so hard he can barely walk. After husband told me that a blow snake and a rattler are never found in the same area, I began to be a bit more rational. I still didnt like them but I realized that all creatures have a place in nature. When I learned that a snake will eat more mice than a cat, I decided that peaceful coexistence is the best method. Bad Habit Charlie does have one bad habit. He likes to get on the cool lawn when the days are exceptionally hot. But detente excluded, my kids are not going to play around any snake. When husband is around, he simply picks him up and takes him back into the orchard. I have a more elaborate way of getting him back where he belongs. I find a nice long stick and by a series of taps and pokes I successfully herd him back. One day as I was poking the snake along the roadside, I saw a car pull up with out of state license tags. Now I know this elderly couple were only going to ask directions or something like that, but as the lady rolled her window down, I saw her smile freeze on her face as she saw Charlie. Its a Snake! My God, Harry, its a snake was all I heard as they drove off in a cloud of dust. Somewhere in South Carolina two nice old people are telling about their trips around the country. And Im sure the best antidote is where Harry and his wife stopped to ask directions. And this crazy woman along the road in Utah was actually would you belive it? herdin Snakes. Visit San Diego Lewis and Ruth Harding and their sons Keith and Scott traveled to San Diego for a visit at the home of Randy and Lynette Pissot.
