Show BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah 16 Former mayor receives recognition Thursday, February 7, 1974 Former Mayor Nephi Westergard of Garland and his wife Thursday evening received a surprise visit from city council members Boyd Munns, Ray Evans, Don Harris and City Recorder Fern Huish. former They presented Mayor Westergard with a Golden Spike Centennial .22 caliber revolver with the dates 9 inscribed. This revolver is identical to the one Westergard presented to Astronaut Dr. Harrison Schmitt when he visited in 1869-196- Tremonton last spring. In making the presentation at that time Westergard noted, Id like to have one of these myself. Mayor Westergard was cited for outstanding and faithful service beyond the call of duty during the 16 years he served as mayor and councilman in Garland City. Buzzing Bear River Men donate time Bar installing carpet by Senneth Hawkes New carpet is being installed at the church and many of the men in town are donating their Elder Michael Coombs Homecoming Sunday in Tremonton A homecoming testimonial in compliment to Elder Michael Coombs will be held in the Tremonton Sixth ward chapel Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. Elder Coombs is the son of Bishop and Mrs. Theo Coombs of Tremonton. He has just returned after fulfilling a LDS mission in Colombia. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the meeting and welcome Michael back home. services by helping out. The job is done and looks very nice. We all thank these gentlemen for being so helpful when they are needed. The Relief society said that carpet should be laid in the foyer as it was so slippery when wet, so they took up a collection and the job was done. Mr. and Mrs. John Hardy donated enough to do the outside step. Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Munns and daughter Erin visited the Frank Gardner family Sunday. Jerry and Shirley Iverson were in Salt Lake to put their son Kevin on the plane for Ft. Polk, La. He enlisted for three years. He called that night to tell them he had arrived in New Orleans and was waiting for his plane to get to camp. Carol and Bernice Hall were in Salt Lake Saturday and Sunday to visit Carleen Hall and children Melanie, Marla and Jeff. They attended the Utah Stars basketball game at the Salt Palace. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Archibald of Willard and Mrs. Leone Larsen from Ogden have returned home from a tour of the Caribbean. They left the Salt Lake City airport Friday night at 12 on midnight a Trans-Internation- D C 8 Airways plane and arrived at San Juan, Puerto Rico at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. They boarded the Greek ship the Americanis for the tour. They toured the islands of Puerto Rico, Curacao, Granada, Guadalupe and St. Thomas. St. Thomas claims to have the most famous shops and white beaches. Dock Strike There was continuous entertainment aboard the ship, which included dancing, talent a costume show, ball, the port lectures, Greek Folk dancing lessons, dinners, buffets and bingo. They returned to San Juan at the end of the cruise to board the plane for their return home. They especially enjoyed the balmy weather (around 80) and the beautiful lush vegetation of the islands. The Cub Scouts in the Willard Second ward will hold their annual Blue and Gold banquet on Thursday Feb. 14. at 6:30 p.m. Mardi Gras will be the theme. The fathers and sons will participate in cake decoration and the cakes will be auctioned. All cubs scouts and their families are invited. Nine members of the Willard Bay chapter of the Young Homemakers attended the state convention held Feb. 1 and 2 at the Ramada Inn in Salt Lake City. sing-a-long- Members attending were Deon Ferry of Mantua and Karen Holmes, Kathy Davis, Nancy Whitaker, Nadel Witt, Merlene Braegger, Jolene Wood, Sherry Berge and Germaine Page. The chapter scrapbook was given best of the year award, the chapter received honorary mention when tying for second Convention Activities The group attended the banquet, luncheon and general meetings held during the convention. Speakers enjoyed during these events were Joan Fisher, Mrs. America, Darlene J. Bergen, a handwriting analyst and Cameron McKennon ' from the Dale Carnegie Institute. Rex Edwards from Terreton, Idaho visited over the weekend in Willard with sisters Edith McClurg and Gladys Schroeder. Forty members of their family including children and greatgrandchildren grandchildren met at the home Dave and Lillian Kunzler on Sunday night to hold a surprise birthday party for Lillian. Representatives from each of their childrens families were there except Barbaras. They held a family home evening program with each participating and served a traditional birthday cake and dessert. Cassie Ann Hunsaker, infant daughter of Verio and LeAnne Hunsaker, was named and blessed in the Willard ward on Sunday by her father. Visitors in Willard on Sunday and attending services in the Willard Ward were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hunsaker from Honeyville. Brian David Henderson son of Gary and Susan Henderson was named and blessed in the Willard ward Sunday by his grandfather John H. Henderson from Ogden. d Kristi Lin Zundel daughter of Robert Lynn and Kris Zundel was baptized on Friday at the Brigham City South Stake center and confirmed on Sunday in the Willard ward by her grandfather LeRoy of eight-year-ol- Dowdle. Mr. and Mrs. Barker hosted a family dinner Sunday night. All of their family were present and included Ivy Marie and Colleen, Fred and Tyler and Cordell and Deon Ferry and family from Mantua, Kent and Pamela Molgard and daughter from Brigham City and Verio and LeAnne Hunsaker, Willard. Don night with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Evans (Janet) and then Sunday they visited Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Peterson (Barbara). Barbara is home from the hospital and will have a cast on her leg replaced with a new one. Mrs. Wilda Nichols had her hip operated on at the Logan hospital Thursday. We wish her a good and speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Silva and baby were guests at the Boyd Hawkes. Mrs. Phyllis Pope of Tremonton went with Dollie Iverson to Brigham Monday on income tax business. Carl Checketts of Ogden visited with his brother Preston Checketts and his family over the weekend. Has Accident The small son of LaRee and Harry Lucas met with an accident last Friday when he fell out of a tree and cut his head on a barb-wirefence. It required seven stitches to close the wound and the little d one is doing just fine now. Mark Williams and Emily Holmgren were confirmed by their fathers Gerald Williams and Gordon Holmgren. Mr. Emil Anderson visited with the Gordon Holmgrens Sunday. The D. J. Thompson family presented the program in church Sunday morning. Vanese and Dean each gave a poem, Vanese and her mother Sharon sang a duet and talks were given by Mr. and Mrs. Thompson on the theme Prayer. The babies named in the sacrament services included. Sabrina Davis by her father Tom Davis. The visitors for the day were Toms parents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Davis of Brigham City. Ben and Louise Tingeys son was given the name of Chester Simon. Their visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Loren Tingey, parents of Ben, and Gary and Mary Dixon and children, a sister to Ben, all from Brigham City. Tiffany, the new daughter of Nyman and Melanie Holmgren was given her name and blessing by her grandfather Harry Canfield. The out of town visitors at the Holmgren home were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Canfield and Mrs. Denzil Ballard and two daughters of Tremonton. The son of Scott and Karen Goodliffe was given the name Ryan Scott by his grandfather Leon Goodliffe. Visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Leon Goodliffe, and son Kirk and his girlfriend Cecilia Pace, and Randy and LaNell Iverson and the maternal grandmother June Iverson and greatgrandmother Alice Peterson. The group all had dinner at the Kay Iverson home in Elwood. Mr. and Mrs. J. Dewey Spendlove of Brigham City parents of Mrs. D. J. Thompson spent Sunday at the Thompson home. Students Home Students from the BYU Becky Hendrickson, David Weidman and Susan Jensen were home with their families for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Leonard accompanied by Rilda Kilpack and Joyce Larson of Mantua, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Anderson and their children Annette, Jennifer and Mark drove to St. George Saturday to attend the wedding reception of Connie MacArthur, a niece of Mrs. Leonard and Mrs. Anderson and Jeff Morbey. The Andersons returned Sunday evening and the Leonards came home Monday. Remember the DUP meeting to be held at Della Christensens Kathey-'firaegge- r, Friday at 2 p.m. and Candace Janice Holmgren were in Provo Saturday where Candace on auditioned for a musical award. S 12 oz. They havent received the results as yet. The Brigham North Stake Beehive girls and their parents held a meeting in Corinne Tuesday evening. The occasion was the Beehive standard night. A program was given and refreshments were served. Each ward presented one girl with a corsage in recognition of her outstanding qualities. All the other wards chose older ladies but our ward gave the to recognition FRANK $ 775 Candace Holmgren. Jack and Alva Hardy were in Pocatello during the week visiting with their daughter Doris and her family. The weekend they spent in Provo with their son Kevin who is attending the BYU. The South Box Elder Farm Bureau held their dinner in Corinne Thursday night and a large representative from Bear River was in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Von Julander and son Kendall from Heber visited the DeWayne Julanders Saturday and Sunday. DeWayne and Joyce Jqlander attended the Young Farmers State convention banquet in Salt Lake City Friday night. Bette Dallin was in Salt Lake during the week in connection with the State Homemakers convention. Betty didnt win the state finals for homemaker of the year. The award went to Ann Davis of Brigham City. A plaque was presented to Francom by the Soil Conservation district. The announcement was made at a dinner meeting honoring Francom and his wife. m Del Monte 14 oz.
