Harrison Willie and Yvonne Tso took first place in the boys and girls divisions respectively during the Indian Invitational Cross Country meet at Haskell Indian Junior college in Lawrence, Kan. this weekend. The meet was sponsored in connection with the induction ceremonies of athletes into the Indian Athletic Hall of Fame on that college campus. Willie ran the two and a half mile course in 13:18. He was first running ahead of 80 other A boys. Miss Tso was clocked at 9 : 37.6 for a mile and a half and beat other girls. 29 Cold, Rainy It was a cold and rainy day on the Haskell campus and the wind was blowing. In fact some participants from Alaska remarked it was the coldest place they had ever run. The two local runners claimed the top awards over tracksters from 28 other Bureau of Indian Affairs schools. The contest was strickly on an llivors loso to Darts, Huskies s individual basis. There was no team representation. Other IS competitors included Joe Kee who took 28th, Joe Begay Jr., 39th, Kenneth Begay, 56th, and Thomas feolbis flea Gonnie, 57th. Better Showing ,The IS girls made a better showing coming in as follows: Joanne Shepard, fifth; Shirley Brown, ninth; Liz John 10th; and Nora Esketts, 12th. Ellie Thompson coached the girls and Dee Hall headed the boys squad. There were tracksters from five state champion squads, two runners up and one third place teams at the meet, according to Hall. Awards were presented to 15 winners in each division meaning all the Intermountain girls copped medals. The first five won gold medals, the second five, silver and the third five, bronze.
