Show Willard Reports Mantua Meanderings By Deon Richards The minor league team from Mantua spent an overnight campout at Perry reservoir Thursday night. Bruce Carr and Darwin Hailing, the coaches, went with the boys. Bruce stayed overnight with them and Darwin came up Thursday and then again Friday morning. Thursday night after they had played games and caught frogs they had a big wiener roast. Friday morning Bruce cooked sausage, eggs and pancakes and they could eat all they could hold. After breakfast they hiked to an old abandoned mine and brought back what they thought were gold samples. Boy Injured Harper J ohnson had to be sent home after an accident on a He had three stitches mini-bik- e. put in his knee. The team members that attended were Mark and Don Wallentine, Todd Reeves, Steven Richard Bigler, Sheehan, Doug and Chris Sorenson, Harper Johnson, Cody Carr, Stewart Richards, Michael David Jeppsen, Marshall, Brian Hailing, Kirk Rasmussen and Van Jepperson. Weekend visitors at the home of Mrs. Lillie Wells was her daughter Janene and husband Dan Vest of Sandy. Also visiting was her son Junior, his wife Inge and their children Christine, Roger, Douglas, Sabrena and Rodney of Tremonton. Ruby Nelson entertained her rook club last Thursday night. There were six members present. Alta Middaugh was welcomed as a new member. Prizes were given to Lola Jensen for high score and Rita Nelson for low score and cut. For refreshments they were served banana cream pie. Shane Cornwall of Tremonton stayed overnight at the home of his cousin, Cody Carr. Joyce Nelson and her daughter Laura attended the Hansen reunion in the Roy Park Friday. They had fun visiting and swimming. Eight of Joyces nine brothers and sisters were at the reunion. Thursday Janette Rasmussen went to the Salt Lake temple to witness the marriage of her niece Kathy Kolts. After the ceremony she attended the wedding breakfast at the Doll House. She returned that evening to Salt Lake with her husband Hal and their children to the reception where Lorna and Jennifer helped with the serving. Mrs. Ida Nelson spent Friday in Richmond visiting her sister Mrs. Mae Hill. Steak Fry The Box Elder Stake MIA board held a steak fry last Tuesday at the Brigham bowery. Those from Mantua who attended were Steve and Carol Sara, Lynn and Faye Hailing, Lynn and Deon Richards and Leon and Treva Johnson. Mrs. Lillie Wells was put in as the new Junior Sunday school coordinator. She filled the vacancy left by June Higley who accepted another assignment. Bruce Carr and Lloyd Hubbard of Corinne spent an exciting Saturday riding their trail! bikes. Lloyd just purchased a new bike and they wanted to find out how it would perform. They went up rocky dugway then south over the mountains ending up that afternoon in Paradise canyon. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wyatt went to Logan Friday night to attend the South Cache Class of '51 reunion. It was held at the University Union building. A smorgasbord supper was enjoyed along with a program that was presented. Visiting in Malad Saturday was Odell and Deanna Rice and their children Delvon, Amy, Claudia, Owen, and Carma. They visited Odells parents Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jensen and did some choke cherry picking while there. n Mr. and Mrs. Harper had some friends of their son Kims stop by to visit last week. They were Mr. and Mrs. Smallwood of Victoria, Canada. Accompanying Guy Higley to Cheyenne for a week was his wife June and their children Ben, John, Julie, Danny and Paul. They have purchased a new trailer house so the family can be with Guy where he is working. Wednesday Guy and June went down to Denver on business, stayed overnight and returned to Cheyenne Thursday and then Friday came home. Jep-pese- Visit Cousin Gaylene and Jana Richards spent two days In Sandy visiting with their cousin Carol Nichols. Carol In return stayed at their home while her parents were on vacation. Ralph Wyatt spent Sunday and Monday In Park City attending a Barbers convention. Mrs. Erma McMillen from Las Vegas visited y with her sister Louella Jeppesen for two days last week. It has been 15 years since Mrs. McMillen has been home so her visit was really enjoyed. Carol Hansen entertained her rook club Friday night. Nine members were present and those winning prizes were Arietta Jensen for high score, lone Baxter for low score and Loretta Wyatt for cut. Carol served a melon cocktail with little lemon tarts for refreshments. Odell Rice is in New Mexico on escort duty picking up Indian students who will spend the winter at the Intermountain school. He plans to return Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Richards and son Michael stayed overnight in Blacksmith canyon Thursday. Lynn and Michael had a fun time fishing. Harper Jeppesen celebrated his birthday recently. His wife, Donnelle, fixed him a special dinner topped off with homemade ice cream and cake. Melvern and Deanne Nelson and family returned son Sunday from Soda Springs where Friday. Gladys Schroeder, her son Robert and sister Edith Bad-dlereturned home from a two week vacation trip. They drove seven thousand miles going first to Phoenix, Ariz. by way of Glen Canyon dam; then continued south entering Mexico at Nogales. They drove south through Mexico stopping at many of the beautiful cities among them Hermosilla and Guadalajara and finally Mexico City where they stayed five they have been since They went to watch their son Burke who was playing ball with the Brigham Pony league traveling team. They played for championship of the tournament but lost Ruby Nelson and her sisters Rita Nelson, Eva Thorsen of Bear River and Isabel Stuart of Wellsville enjoyed a day visiting and having dinner together at the Deer Cliff Inn near Preston. Madisen Fishing Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Hansen and children, Steven, Larry, David, Jill and Erik and Roland Jeppesen left Saturday for a fishing trip in Montana along the Madison river. The fishing was real good and they all had good luck. Even Erik caught three fish. Doyle snagged onto some real big ones before returning home Monday. Visiting for the last month at the Ray Jeppesen home was their daughter Joyce Lee and her children Jeffery, Spencer, Susanne, Robin and Chris from Springfield, Va, The last two weeks of their stay they were joined by Joyce's husband Scott. One their way home they planned to stay two days with Joyces sister Linda Blaser in Rexburg then journey to before Canada Calgary, returning to their home. Celebrating his 84th birthday last week was Devan Sorenson. A family was held at his home where everyone was served ice cream and cake. Those attending were Byron and Annalore Sorenson and family, Dewey and Carol Sorenson and family, Dora Mae and Floyd Palmer and Floyds mother and John and Carolyn Hurd and daughter Heidi. Mrs. Rita Nelson is enjoying a visit from her granddaughter Shelley Stark of Dillon, Mont. Shelley is staying with her grandmother while her mother, Ora Lee, is in the hospital with a new baby sister. Enjoying dinner at Maddox last week was Carol Hansen and her mother and sisters Lila Jones of Logan and Linda Barnard of Brigham City. Jolynn and Joan Richards are visiting with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Norman in Corinne this week. Sympathy is extended to Scott Olsen and his family with the death of their wife and mother Geneva Olsen. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Mantua chapel. New Baby Girl Dixie Noyes are rejoicing over the arrival of a new baby girl. It arrived early Tuesday morning weighing in at six pounds. Awaiting the arrival Richard and at home are the couple's children Denny, Shelley, Kevin, Kent and Lisa. The proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Noyes and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jeppesen of Mantua. Sydney Keller and children Ann, Xori, Jill and John from Lyman, Wyo. are visiting at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Herm Jeppsen. Mrs. Keller plans to stay the week doing some shopping and canning while she is here. Vacationing to the Black Hills n were Mr. and Mrs. Jim and children Kevin, Cindy and Holly. They traveled through Yellowstone park on their way and came home by way of Wyoming returning Sunday. Maude and Mary Peterson visited in Syracuse last week at the home of Mary's daughter Jannette and Wayne Sims. The was occasion grandson Michael's birthday. Darwin and Karen Hailing have been vacationing in Jackson Hole. They spent three days there enjoying the tram ride to the top of the Teton mountains and a melodrama at the Pink Garter. They returned home Wednesday. Their four For-sgre- days. They visited the big pyramids there, toured the University of Mexico, the Olympic stadium, and Taxco, the silver mining city. While in Mexico City they attended a LDS church and were interested in the growth of the church there. There are four stakes in Mexico City and 32 wards. They continued on south to the resort city of Acapulco, called the Miami Beach of Mexico. As they returned north to come home they traveled through Monterey and up to El Paso, Texas and then drove through Texas, New Mexico and to Mesa Ariz. They came back through Glen canyon. They said the scenery throughout Mexico was very beautiful, the mountains were covered with ferns and palms and wild flowers of all kinds. Connie Morgan and three children have moved to Idaho Falls to make their home. Jay and The Willard Second ward Relief society announces their August meeting will be 24a summer party Tuesday, Aug. at 6 p.m. in the bowery. It will be a steak fry and all ladies in the ward are invited. Champions of the Powder Puff league for the second year are the Out of Towners team of Estate Visit Patents Mr. and Mrs. (Barbara) Robert Kelly and six children from Cammerilla, Calif, are visiting with Barbaras parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Kunzler. They have spent the past six weeks in Rapid, S.D. where Robert has been attending school. Before returning to their home in California they plan to visit with Roberts parents in Salt Lake City and with Barbaras brother Earl and family in Provo. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Hall for two days were Mr. and Mrs. (Donna) Wilbur Bliss and four from players Willard and Perry. Coaching the team has been Ralph Dalton from Willard and Brent Christensen from Perry.
