Show 2 BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham Thursday, June 3, 1971 letters to A Stinking Disgrace Editor: Bear River An open letter to the residents City: Why is it that people who are neat, and clean in personal appearance and about their yards have no qualms about littering anothers back yard? Why is it that wives who wouldnt allow their husbands to read a letter over their shoulder dispose of the same letter in the town dump? Letters, bills, other personal mail, papers, pie plates, bags, dead animals, wet garbage; nothing is sacred. Nothing is too personal or too repulsive to leave there. Its a messy, stinking, cluttered disgrace to the town, its residents and particularly to the adjoining property owners. The ironic part of it is that no one in the immediate neighborhood uses it or needs it, yet they have to provide whatever care it gets, tolerate its smell, the rats, the inand the convenience of blocked cost of gate and fence maintenance. The very presence of a dump is bad enough under the best of conditions. Under the conditions of the Bear River town dump its inright-of-wa- The people are ashamed of their dump. They know its disgraceful, uncared for, an unwanted step-chil- d. Persons take liberties on the adjacent property that they wouldnt consider anywhere else. Its a popular shooting gallery with little regard for nearby livestock, scattering of cans or bottles, (which become dangerous or deadly chucks of forage or feed) gates, fences of fence posts. - When we are in the fields or in the vicinity of the dump they make elaborate gestures in dumping over the side or at least as out of the way as possible. At other times they dump wherever its convenient and get out in a hurry, often dragging parts of their refuse with them. when we They talk about it violate the the same but meet, premises persons when they think they can remain anonymous. They1 fail to realize that' the trash itelf haSits' own clues of ownership. Past town boards have taken steps at some type of control; inadequate but at least taken. The present town board fails to do anything except at one time to help gather trash blown into my fields. Town cleanup never includes the road to the dump or the dump itself; its merely the ly ; . ' . Some Utah fishermen must be the loneliest guys in the world. There are a few that can't stand fishing alone. For example if there's a stretch of stream that's free of anglers and you're fishing one hole on that stretch, they'll come and fish the same hole. don't know if it's because they're lonely or if they figure where you're fishing must be the best place. Anyway, our devoted recipient of more unwanted litter. I say, townspeople demand some action! Arrive at some controls, standards, policies, post them and enforce them! Stop making your neighbors the keepers of your filth! They are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W. Capps, 527 North Sixth East.
