Show 4 Corinne Comments BOX ELDER NEWS, Brigham City, Utah Sunday, March 14, 1971 S.O.S. - Save Our School By Gertrude Moore Officers of the Corinne school PTA have called a meeting for Wednesday, March 17. S.O.S. save our school, will be the topic under discussion during the meeting, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. recomThe projected mendation to consolidate the Corinne and Bear River City elementary schools will be the subject for discussion. All interested persons as well as parents of and students now attending here, are urged to join in the discussion. The issue should be of vital interest to all citizens. Everyone is urged to voice their opinion at this time, according to Mrs. Dennis Jones, president. A nominating committee, headed by Mrs. Grant Nelson had been named at a previous meeting. They will present a slate of officers selected by them. Balloting for officers for the coming 1971-7- 2 school term will be held the same evening. Meeting place is the schools e room. multi-purpos- A program, under the direction of Mrs. George Welch, will include a vocal selection by several ladies from West Corinne. They will be accompanied by Mrs. Milton Norman. Field Trips Field trips for the students of the Corinne school have been of interest to all who participated. On Friday, Feb. 19 students of the fourth and sixth grades, accompanied by Mrs. Leone Hunsaker and Robert Hodgson, traveled by bus to Brigham City. They went to the art center and museum in the community center. A tour there and to the home of Lloyd Gunther proved to be highly interesting to the students. The Gunther home houses a rock collection, a subject studied recently by the on group. They spent a half-datheir trip. The first and second grade students of the school traveled by bus to Salt Lake City Feb. 25. They visited the museum of natural history in the University of Utah. A tour of the state capitol building concluded a very interesting trip for the group and their teachers, Mrs. Reva Nelson and Ellen Tolman. They ate lunches brought from home during their outing. The group from Corinne school was accompanied by the students of first grade Honeyville school. On Friday, Feb. 26, an excited group of kindergarten and third grade students traveled to Ogden by bus. Their stops included the Ogden Standard Examiner office, where each child received a "printed copy a stop at Eddie's sheet; bakery with a tour through that facility where the group received a bakers hat as a momento of their visit there; a tour of a supermarket and a tour of the library at Weber State college offered a full slate to all participants. The Corinne school students were accompanied by Mrs. Joy Gilbert and Mrs. Santos Pommier. A lunch prepared by the Corinne school cooks was enjoyed by the group at lunchy time. The group was accompanied by Perry schools second grade students, and their teachers Joycele Nelson and Betty Mills. They ate lunch prepared by Perry sEfool cooks. The Corinne camp daughters of Utah pioneers held a meeting Wednesday March 3, at the home of Gwen Rader. The LDS Temples, was lesson, given by Norma Bosley. The history of the town of Perry or "Three Mile Creek in Box Elder county was given by Gwen Rader. The site is the place where the descendants of the G. Davis family settled in the early days of the territory of Utah. It was very well given by Mrs. Rader. Refreshments were served to nine members present by the hostess. The motifs were in keeping with the St. Patricks Day observance. Lions Activities Members of the Corinne Lions club and their wives joined members of all Lions clubs of Box Elder county on Wed- nesday, March 3, at the Brigham City Community center. Dr. Glen Taggart was guest speaker for the meeting that began at 7:30 p.m. The affair, hosted by the Willard Lions club, included a banquet. The zone party was ladies night and was one of the highlights of the year. Prizes were awarded to the holders of winning tickets during the evenings festivities. The program consisted of students of Box Elder high school, who are members of the drama class, singing bits of the scores of the musical show, "Oklahoma." The production will be presented at the Box Elder High school in the near future. Those attending from here were Howard and Jessie Eller, Art and Marion Danielson, Wayne and Della Owens, Gene and Jeanle Shlnkle, Alvin and Pauline Luckey, Clayton and JoAnn Morrill, Keith and Preal Shinkle, and Joyce and Ivy Wanker. Happy Birthday Happy birthday wishes this month have gone to Stephanie Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Anderson. She celebrated with grandparents, cousins and classmates on March 3. She enjoyed treat for the class and then ice cream and cake with grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Anderson of Bothwell and Mr. and Mrs. James Moore, and cousins, Kelly, Gary, Tresa and Heidi and their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Morrill. The Andersons daughters, Susan and Stephanie celebrated birthdays in February. The same group came with presents and happy birthday wishes. Terry Christopher celebrated a birthday, March 7. On Saturday evening a group of friends met at the home of David Lamere in Brigham City. Walker, Larry Jensen, Darrel Walker and Rex Jensen. The group traveled hy car to the Logan canyon resort. They chose a place near the highway in six-fodrifts to build shelters for the night. They dug caves in the snow and put sleeping bags inside. The group slept warmly, but found a cold world Saturday morning when they emerged. A Art and Marion Danielson. The group cooked a delicious turkey dinner that was served by members of the quorum and their wives. Cookies and ice cream was served as desert. Table decorations of spring flowers and motifs were prepared by David and Kathy Bingham and Robert and Lome Norton. bon-fir- e cheered the campers as they worked for credit requirements for badges in their scout training. They returned home on Saturday afternoon. Turkey Dinner The Elders quorum of the Corinne ward held their banquet in the ward cultural hall on Saturday evening. In charge of arrangements were DeVeral and Beaula Wells, Howard and Jessie Eller, and Program chairman and master of ceremonies was Dee Hardy. It consisted of a pan-tomin- e skit by Ron Trimble and Wade Hyde, a vocal selection by Virginia Checketts who accompanied herself on the guitar, and a saxaphone selection by Lloyd Hubbard and acLoydene, daughter companied by Donna Hubbard. There were 55 members and wives who attended the event and spent a social evening. Newly elected officers for the Sons of the Utah Pioneer include: left, Howard Nelson, second vice president; Harold Felt, national vice president; Austin Larsen, Immediate past PIONEER OFFICERS president; Deverell Petersen, president; Lewis Wight, director; Lyman Morrell, first vice president; James Miller, secretary. The officers will serve for the upcoming year. Wilson (Bill) Forest, director, was not present for the picture. Box Elder County Planning the evenings activities were Jaynann Eller, Elaine Shinkle, and Scott Anderson. Ice Cream and cake were enjoyed by the group. Dancing to the music of "The Rocking Three provided a funtime to the group who attended. Mr. and Mrs. Pack Hatch motored to Twin Falls, Idaho., on Thursday. They went to spend a most enjoyable day visiting with Mrs. Hatchs Mr. daughter and and Mrs. Robert Norris. Visiting at the Norris home was Mrs. their daughter-in-law- , Frank Norris of Minneapolis, Minn. She was accompanied by her children Douglas and Natalie. The Hatches enjoyed dinner and a delightful motor trip in the spring-lik- e weather. The group spent the afternoon in reminiscing. When the Hatches returned home late that evening they were surprised to see snow had fallen here in the early evening. Howard and Jessie Eller and and daughters, Charlene Jaynann motored to Lava, Idaho on Sunday. They went there to visit with their Gene daughter and and Diane Nielson. The Ellers spent an enjoyable afternoon with the Nielsons and their children, Wesley and Christie. by They were accompanied Terry Christopher.
