PTA Officers tiwifk rein shares n America Pay Visit to High School BUY By Marian Jeppson Officers of the South Box Elder Regional PTA and of the Box Elder High School PTA along with Supt- Walter D. Talbot, paid a surprise visit to Principal E. W. Payne and the classrooms of the Box Elder High school last Thursday, Nov. 12, as one of their activities in recognition of National Education Week. This visit was 0 acceptance of an invitation issued by Principal Payne earlier to visit the school at any time. The committee consisted of f verett Goodell, Mrs. Robert Mrs. Don Olsen, Mrs. Harry darker, Mrs. Dale Baron, and Mrs. John Barber. The purpose of the visit was to find ways and means of bettering the PTA. The officers felt that 'his purpose coujd best be served by observing school procedure under normal conditions. Study PTA Attendance The visit began with' a meeting held in Principal Paynes .office where the problem of how to get more parents to attend PTA meetings was discussed. The general feeling expressed was that the greater the parent particiuation in PTA meetings, the better the school will be. It will take enthusiasm and interest on the part of every parent to help the PTA help their children. One of the major problems of getting parents to attend these meetings seems to be that the students don want them to come. The students seem to feel that they are forming together to work against them. A need to make the pupils understand that the parents and teachers are meeting together to discuss ways of making the school more pleasant for the students, is evident. Office Personnel Reports 11 members of Principal Paynes office staff made a report to the committee on their work. Mrs. Beth Norman, secretary, explained how accurate accounts of each student were kept. She stressed the idea of how important these records were to students in their future lives. Employers are calling up evehy day to check on these records, it was pointed out. Mrs. Norman felt that through pTA, parents should learn how important these records are so that they can help their children tpake a good record for themselves. Leon Johnson and Miss Norma Rohde, counselors, were called In separately to explain their duties. They are there to help students plan their courses and make adjustments in their class schedules. They help the students to obtain scholarships to various colleges. They are trying to Institute a program to help students in early years of high school so that problems of later years might be avoided. Miss Rohde stated that there was definitely a need to U.S. SAVINGS BONDS & STAMPS Open the brightest .gift package of 1959 . . - ' f- Mol-gar- . Observe Teaching Methods The PTA chose to visit the school when school personnel did not expect them so that they could observe the program and interpret it to the public. They made a tour of many classes after the meetng and observed the teachers teachcircumstances. ing under normal All were very impressed with what they saw. It was felt that if every parent would try this, they would come to a better understanding of what their children are really doing. The committee ate lunch along Find the worlds finest with the students in the' school cafeteria. Here they observed the order and the procedure. Students were picked at random out of the line and questioned as to how they like school lunch. Also three top scholars were questioned to give a general opinion as to how successful the program was. At the end of the tour the committee felt that the school is generally in good condition and that the teaching is excellent. The PTA also feels that they can help the parents and students, but to do this, they need every parent who is interested in the welfare and well being of his child to be in attendance at PTA meetings. bourbon since 1795 Beam sets the mood for a festive holiday season with this gleaming, colorful, original gift package, worthy of the bourbon thats always Worthy of Your Trust.
