Show ! DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL, DECEMBER 15, 1977 WEEKLY REFLEX C vLLfu By DAVE WIGHAM The Clearfield wrestling team is starting from square one and trying to get the program off on the right foot. New coach Scott Tennis is starting out with a lot of fundamentals with the kids. In fact the new coach is still trying to convince some athletes to compete on the wrestling program. COACH Tennis indicated that, When you start out building up a program you cant really be as disciplined as you want to be. As a result Im not as tough on the wrestlers as I will be in the future." Another step that Coach Tennis is taking is talking to the junior highs in the area to get some of those kids interested in wrestling. JUNIOR Pete Srisiaad is mark this year, sporting a he placed third in region last year and is considered by his coach as one of the best wrestlers on the squad. Senior Ray Trujillo holds down the 112 spot, he has a 1 mark this year, while junior A1 Garcia, who placed fourth in region a year ago, sports a 6-- 2 ' 3-- 3 Shumar, goes at mark in the 118 class. JUNIOR Alan Ragan fills in 155 this year will better for Clearfield, he too weighs less and gives up too much weight to be really effective. Junior Mike Gorter will probably get the nod at 167 if he continues to go the way he is. at 126. Coach Tennis notes that Alan is really a 112 wrestler who weighs in at 119. As a result of his size he gives away too much weight but he is a very competitive wrestler. Senior Dave Klecker returns at 132 to give the Falcons some more points. Dave placed third in region last year and is 62 on the year so far. After a fourth place finish in region a year ago senior Mike Jones, who is currently on the season, is back at THE TWO upper weights are two man fights to see who goes varsity, in the 185 pound class the battle is between Jeff Bybee and Jerry Hatch, both underclassmen. -- 4-- 2 The big boys, or unlimited weight class is between Rick Spaeth, who lettered at American Fork a year ago, and senior Rob Young who is in his first year of wrestling.
