By this game the Vikes had lost several of their players for the year to injuries. THEY had found themselves a goldmine in the running department in Tod Jones, but he suffered a knee injury and was out early in the year. Then Shane Smoot hurt his shoulder and was out, Rick Hallows, Eden and others were all nursing the nagging injuries. The crippled Vikes went on to lose games to Clearfield, Roy and Bonneville, none without a fight though, as the Vikes refused to give up at any time during the season. The Brave lineman, Steve Rudd, Ron Hammer and Dean Layton are all looking forward to the challenge. BOUNTIFUL coaches feel like they can stop the Eagle running game, in fact they expect the Skyline club to come out throwing the ball. They say they shut off the Layton runners, of whom they say are better than Skylines. The game could be won in the trenches with both clubs sporting big and talented people. If Bountiful does backfield. YES, it does seem like the Bountiful club has a shot at beating Skyline. Sounds like ihey better not make too many mistakes though. But the Braves have gone 1 on the year and that speaks for itself, they have a good football club just like Skyline. 8-- before practice sessions started. The head man put together a great football club in the time he had. JUST think what he can do in a few years if he can take a club with three days practice and mold them into the competitive bunch that he had. The club got stronger as they went, but that meant they were getting used to the new system. There was another factor to their success, they had some real talented individuals on the club. Brian Johnson was a question mark at the start of the year, no question about his talents now as he guided the club to their fine showing. Brian threw the ball effec tively and had he been playing on two good knees, one hundred percent that is, he could have been a good runner. THE LINE of Curtis Kawaguchi, Rodger Bailey, Mike Muir, Bryce Chapman and Kevin Jamison did an admirable job at protecting the signal caller all year. Jamison and Rodger Vincent also turned into reliable receivers as did Steve Beal. Running backs Mike Arrant, Jeff Trusell and Jim Wilson gave the Falcons more than adequate running at- offensive linemen also slip and Arrant. The Skyline game was actually a lot closer than the final score indicated as the Vikes have always been known to give the Eagles a tough game. Then came the region contests and the Vikes won their opening encounter taking the win away from Weber. The Vikes then stayed up with the unbeatens in league action by downing the Sky View club, the Bobcats were very impressive early in the years, but they were also crippled with injuries.
