Show 1 The Page 9 Three Kaysville Girls Named To Girls State Kaysville Three Junior students from Davis High school who reside in Kaysville, have been selected to attend the 1956 Girls State, June 3 to 10 at the USAC in Logan. Three girls, Nancy Hollist, Marilyn Mansell and Mary Anne Wood, will be sponsored by the Kaysville post, American Legion auxiliary with financial assistance from the Kaysville Rotary Club and J. R. Gailey of Barnes Bunking Company. Utah-- ' Girls State is an annual 'event sponsored by the American Legion auxliiary, Department of Utah, A total of 250 gills are named from the state to attend session designed to the week-lon- g teach the actual function of government. The girls set up political parties, hold conventions and elections and study the duties and obligations of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. Miss Hollist is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orson L. Hollist. She and her family moved to Kaysville five years ago from Brigham City. Nancy is active in debate and public speak; ing at Davis High school where she is a junior. Marilyn is a daughter of Mrs. II. V. Mansell of Kaysville and a junior at Davis High. She has been selected as an editor of the D book for 1U56-5- 7 and is a member of the Quill and Scroll club. She is interested in sewing and cooking and is a member of Davis High FHA. Mary Anne Wood, 17, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill E. Wood, wa9 elected vice president of the 1956-5- 7 student body at Davis High. Art officer in the Masque and Gavel club. Mary Anne is active in debating and public speaking at Davis and won the Martha E. Barnes contest at the school last year when she was a sophomore. She was attendant to the Prom mistress this year and placed third in the I Speak, For Democracy contest sponsored at the school by the Kaysville Rotary club. EN-RIC- E cup chopped nuts Soften yeast in water. Combine milk, shortening, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm and stir in 2 cups flour and beat well. Add eggs, beating well. Stir in yeast mixture, orange peel and juice. Add remaining flour to make a soft dough. Cover and let stand 10 minutes. Knead dough about 10 minutes till smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise until double in bulk, about 2 . hours. , Punch down, divide dough in half, cover and let rest 10 minutes. Roll each half into a rectangle about 14 inch thick. Spread with half of the orange filling, roll as for jelly roll, cut in lunch slices and place in muffin tins. Let rise until double and bake at 400 degrees about 15 minutes. Makes 30 to 38 medium rolls. These rolls may be stored in the home freezer for several weeks, and are delicious, when warmed. Davis . According to husband Walt, anything Kathryn cooks is tops, but listed below are two of the favorite recipes of the Jennings household: CHICKEN-RICCASSEROLE 3 cups cooked rice (either white or brown) (1 cup uncooked) 1 can pimientos, chopped 2 cups diced, cooked chicken 1 can mushroom soup 1 can plain mushrooms 2 cups chicken broth 2 tablespoons flour j cup chopped almonds (optional) Combine rice and pimiento. Place layer of rice mixture in greased casserole and alternate layers of the mushrooms mixed with soup, chicken and the almonds (if used). Pour over all the broth seasoned with salt and pepper and blended with the flour. Cover with 2 cups of buttered bread or cracker crumbs and bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. Serves 8.
