Show D7 Wednesday, September 24, 2003 Vernal Express Uties to fface Wasafch Friday The Uintah High School football team will try to put their 50-- 0 defeat to Park City behind them this week as they take on the Wasatch Wasps in their second Region 10 game. The Park City game culminated a preseason series of top ranked teams that lined up against Uintah. The Utes are 1 - 4 on the season 0 - 1 in league play. Uintah first faced the Juan Diego in a 40 - 6 defeat to open season play. Juan Diego is the returning state champion 2A school. The 4 Utes then defeated Carbon the following week. Next, they hosted 5A Hillcrest and came out on the bottom end of a 34 - 0 score. To continue facing the giants, they next traveled to St. George to play second ranked Snow Canyon. This game also went against them in a 22-- 7 loss. Then finally, last Friday in Park City they opened league play against the number 5 ranked Miners and looked the dragon in the eye. Although the preseason and now the league opening game disappointment put the Utes up against it, how they respond this Friday against the Wasps may determine 21-1- U12 and U14 Elks Soccer Shoot winners are (left to right) Lexi Bowden, Brady Davis, Amanda Kazeck, Brodie Ayotte, 1st place: Lacey Norton, Geri Lou Rasmussen, Travis Peltier, Shiloh Reynolds and Vernal Elks Soccer Coordinator Brian Gorum. Rebounding from a humiliating loss will take determination and discipline. Wasatch is looking for their first win of the season. They fell to 4 last week Judge Memorial in their first Region 10 game. In the preseason, they too suffered some humiliating shut outs. They lost 30 - 0 to Tooele and were shut out again by Carbon and gave the Dinos the 2 - 0 victory from the embarrassment of a safety. It is probably safe to say, that both the Utes and the Wasps are hungry for a victory this Friday. Uintah, Granite and Wasatch suffered opening week losses and are listed in that order as fourth, fifth and sixth place in the region. Park City, Union and Judge Memorial are 0 and fall in that order at the top end of the region pile.
