Every building permit issued, every decision made Board of County the by Commissioners effects a change. County residents can ignore change and lose any ability to shape it, or they can participate in the planning process allowing their values to influence that growth. The Uintah County Commissioners believe the latter is preferable. Consequently, Uintah County has hired Bear West, a group of planning, environmental and community issues consultants to assist with the Countys planning process. The Uintah County General Plan, in its entirety, was last updated in 1986 with the public lands portion last updated in 1995. Its well time for the community to come together and rethink its course. Bear Wests consultants helped Uintah County with its last update and, also, helped Vernal City and Naples with their last General Plan updates. Three public scoping meetings will be held where the Bear West consultants will meet with the pub- lic and help to identify issues and plan for the Countys growth. The first meeting will be Wednesday, October 1st at 7p.m. at Western Park Convention Center, 302 East 200 South, in Vernal. The second will be Thursday, Oct 2 at 7p.m. at Lapoint Elementary School, in Lapoint. And, the third will be Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7p.m. at West Middle School, in Ft. Duchesne. The Uintah County Commissioners believe it is imperative to seek the will of the people concerning the growth of the County. Once the publics input has been obtained the County, with Bear Wests assistance, will refine the existing General Plan and develop community objectives. After this process is complete, implementation tools will be developed or revised (such as Land Use Ordinances) and become the means by which future County change is directed. Recognizing that any action taken effects the other local entities.Uintah governmental County will make efforts to coordinate its general plan update with those of Vernal City and Naples City. The Uintah County Commissioners believe that change will undoubtedly come. The critical question is, what kind of change will it be? They would invite each Uintah County resident to come and join in the process. Let your opinions be known.
