Last year at this time fisherman were chasing shad in the middle of Powells broad bays, landing stripers which were erupting beneath the "boiling bait fish. "This year, the action is in the back of canyons, early and late in the day, explains Tom Pettengill, fisheries biologist for Utah Wildlife Resources (UWR). "You rarely see shad, but stripers generally in the range are being caught on surface and shallow crank baits.
