Now that is a startling statistic, but the bottom line is that Grantsville had fashioned a lead by that time, and all the Delta scoring splurge did was make the score more respectable. The Cowboys broke fast from the chute in the first quarter, and with Loren Anderson, Jeff Hamm and John Butler making a mockery out of the Delta defense, Grantsville raced away to a 20-lead at the end of the first period. During the halftime intermission Grantsvilles lovely and talented Lariettes put on a spit and polish patriotic number during which the girls waved silken strips of blue and white material in rhythm with their dancing feet and stirring music. It was an impressive number. And the waving silken banners put one in mind of the movements .of Loren Anderson, Grantsvilles senior guard. Like the streamers, Anderson drifted up and down the court, with deceptive speed, and with the same effortless motion that the dancers displayed. Anderson seemed to be everyplace at once, and his shooting brought more than one oh and ah to the spectators. Anderson ripped the cords for 22 points and they came at the end of long and shots, medium shots, drive-in- s quick releases from every angle. Anderson is playing that guard position like it was invented for him. Prior to this year, Anderson had operated, and operated effectively from the forward line. However, this year, Coach Williams shifted the wizard to guard and both Anderson and the coach are reaping the benefits. And while Anderson was drawing the raves of the crowds, steady John Butler was just as effective tip-in- championship on a decision. 63-5- 0 o mid-lak- e After winning his first match Victory Hose Flores lost his second in the 147 pound novice division. y. uplake. Last year at this time fisherman were chasing shad in the middle of Powells broad bays, landing stripers which were erupting beneath the "boiling bait fish. "This year, the action is in the back of canyons, early and late in the day, explains Tom Pettengill, fisheries biologist for Utah Wildlife Resources (UWR). "You rarely see shad, but stripers generally in the range are being caught on surface and shallow crank baits. The reason UWR doesnt expect a repeat of 1981s frantic surface action is because this year shad generally never left the lakes 90 major no one is sure why. canyons Stripers were being caught during October in canyons as far uptake as the Great Bend, about 15 miles into the San Juan arm. Late reports from the UWR office and Bullfrog and Halls Crossing marinas reveal respectable stringers of stripers and largemouth being taken in canyons, as well. In addition to surface lures, stripers are going for jigs, from 4 to 80 feet deep, a technique which coincidentally is producing a healthy number of walleye averaging 2 to 3 pounds.
