God has never promised us that every day would be a holiday and every meal a feast. He has promised us that His grace will be sufficient for all of our needs and His strength is made perfect in weakness. Many to impose JF 'fH times we want I our will upon God and have things the way we want God ' ff I f them instead of the way that is best for us. The Israelites found out in our text that sometimes Gods will may be boring! Notice THE ORDERS: In verse 3, they were to march around the city once each day for six days. I have had friends in the military and they tell me there is nothing a soldier hates more than marching. To make matters worse they had to be silent! Now I imagine the first day was exciting as the mighty men of war with the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant arrayed themselves and marched around the city. But by the third or fourth day this was getting old. I can just hear them, Come on Joshua what gives, lets get this over with and move on. THE PEOPLE OF JERICHO: We know from Jos. 2:9 that they were scared. They had heard what God had done for the children of Israel. But by the fourth or fifth day they were probably a lot more confident, maybe even jeering at Israel. All along, Israel had to keep THE ORDERS silent. We see in verses DAY: seventh days The SEVENTH THE FOR orders were to march not once, but seven times around this city! This was no small hike. They had to stay out of the range of the archers so the distance was even greater than just the citys walled boundaries. I dare say most of us wouldnt be there. We would love to see the miracles of God and feel the excitement, we would want to a part of those walls falling down and the victory that followed, but it is the sacrifices made getting there that most of us wouldnt make. We have had it too good in America. A high standard of living, freedom to travel within our own borders, good education, and all the luxuries that technology brings are things we cling to with great intensity. On a 4-- 5, recent trip to Illinois, I asked a gentleman I was sitting by on the plane if he could take one years salary and prevent our troops from going to Bosnia would he? He said no. He would keep his salary and let our boys go into harms way. We want the glory, but we want it given to us. This couldnt be further from reality. An old military poem puts it best, The heights by great men reached and kept, were not attained through sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward through the WE ALSO WANT RESULTS NOW! night We live in an instant gratification society. Computers, the internet, and credit cards all give us what we want almost instantly. We have been conditioned to push a button or take a pill and receive what we want. Moses spent forty years watching sheep before his burning bush experience! Thats boring! Elisha was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen when he was called into Gods service. That is worse than boring, its hard work. God wants a person wholl be faithful and stick with it no matter what. This doesnt mean we are not to look for God to do great things, but we are to realize it will be in His perfect timing not ours, and that these great things may not seem great to us at first. The person God is looking for is the one who will faithfully put his head down and just keep going, trying to keep his heart right with the Lord. 2 Chr. 16:9, For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him..." When it gets tough - they keep going; when it gets boring - they keep going; when Satan gets in their way - they keep going. We need to keep on reading, studying, praying, and listening to the preaching and teaching of Gods Word. Then, we need to keep on doing what we have learned. If you are not saved, the Bible says you are without guidance, through life. Please understand that you need a Savior and that Savior, the Bible says, is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Simply by putting all of your faith and trust in Jesus and accepting Him as your Savior, the Bible says you will be saved. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that Cod hath raise him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Rom. 10:9 This is Gods will for you, and believe me it is not boring! r WARD BOUNDARIES This map provided by Nephi Utah Stake show the new boundaries for Nephi 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th wards. Residents of the Stake were told at a special meeting on Sunday night of the change in ward boundaries and of the new ward. THE SEARCH IS OVEIR! iASTW!
