Show Page 2 "FromWhere I Sit" if By Allan R. Gibson dje Wednesday, April 3, 1996 Nephi, Utah A while back I ran a picture on the front page of a dangerous bridge on 600 East that needed repair. Thanks to the Nephi City Street Department for repairing the bridge and removing another hazard from our community. Often, it only takes caring people to change things for the better. If you know of a hazard in our communities, dont assume that those with the power to change it already know about it. Take time to call and let them know. They live here too and in most cases they are responsive to getting things safe. The bright, ambitious kids in our school district have the rjght to classes that . challenge them and allow them to get ahead in their college education. What about the very bright and even gifted students we have? Have they even been officially tested and identified let alone created learning opportunities for? Not only should the AP classes be continued, I think more should be offered in the middle and elementary schools for gifted children. It is interesting to watch the political process. On the national stage we have been caught up in the Republican primaries across our country that have spread Dole, Buchanan, Forbes, and all the rest of the republican faces across our TV sets each night. Each night we watched as the crowd was whittled down to Senator Dole. Lots of miles were traveled by all candidates, the staff and the press. Many people voted to determine which candidate will head the Republican party slate in November to face President Clinton. Here on the local level we have had a similar, if not public, battle to become the Republican Commission candidate in November. It was interesting to watch Brough stack the mass meetings in his attempt to retake the seat he lost four years ago to Commissioner Young. Young was warned that Brough would stack these meetings, but decided to not undertake similar tactics. Young was overheard saying that he didnt think it was very democratic. Last night, April 2nd, the Republican party met to select from these two candidates the partys choice for the November elections. Id like to tell you this morning the outcome from that convention, but this weeks paper will be printed before the decision is known. Check it our in next weeks edition. arg To Mona Irrigation Company may receive $102,000 to put in pipeline from Willow Creek Canyon estimated culinary water system improvements estimated to cost $480,000; and Old Meadow Water Company, Iron CounIvins Irrigation Company, ty culinary water storage tank There is something very impo- pact of poverty on individuals, rtant missing from the current families, and communities.
