Show ormon Miracle setfor mine nig tits THE ' MORMON MIRACLE PAGEANT which each year is bringing increasing thousands to Temple Hill in Manti will have nine this summer. performances The pageant, based on Latter-da- y Saint history and doctrine, will be presented July 12, 13 and 14, skip July 15, which is a Sunday, and then have performances July 16 through 21. R. Morgan Dyreng, Manti, who has had administrative assignments with the pageant since its beginning, has been named general chairman, according to Wilbur W. Cox, Sanpete South Stake president, who is chairman of the pageants executive committee. Committees are now at work on phases of the pageant, including costuming, scenery and lighting, according to Mr. Dyreng. He stated that stage facilities will be materially expanded for the new production. Rehearsals by a cast numbering around 300 will begin about June 1 under the direction of Mrs. Macksene Rux, Salt Lake City theater and television personality who has been the director for several years. We plan on having seating for 12,000 at Mr. the foot of Temple Hill this summer, Dyreng said. Other thousands will be asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Space to provide an audience of 20,000 with an excellent view of the stage is available at Temple Hill. The pageant had its first performance in 1967 before about 2,000 spectators. Last summer audiences totaling an estimated 110,500 saw its eight performances. And arrangements are also being made for food services for the visitors. Food booths will be operated within a block or so of the pageant site and wards will serve family-styl- e dinners. Mr. Dyreng said that, although most pageant-goer- s come in private cars, several companies which operated fleets of buses last year brought thousands to Manti by bus. Arrangements are being made to have the bus transportation expanded, Mr. Dyreng said, not merely for the saving in expense to those attending, but also because the use of buses eases the parking problem. Overall, we thought an excellent job was done in parking and otherwise handling the traffic last summer, but we hope to do an even better job with this phase of activity, he indicated. Based on an original dramatic reading first written and presented by Miss Grace Johnson, Ephraim, The Mormon Miracle had its first performance at the Sanpete County fairgrounds in Manti in 1967. The following summer the pageant was moved to Temple Hill, with the Temple itself forming a part of the setting. Each year has seen modifications in the original script and the development of a more elaborate production utilizing the most modem facilities in the way of sound, lighting and staging. And each summer the number of play dates has been increased to accommodate the ever larger audiences which have wanted to see the dramatic enactment of some of the more significant historic episodes in the Mormon story. why you should The Neil Garrett Ph. 623-18- 3: TRACTOR AND TRUCK REPAIR GET YOUR EQUIPMENT ; NOW FOR YOUR; SPRING AND SUMMER; WORK.
