Large Group Enjoys Variefte Club Anniversary Party Former members of the Club, coming from as far as California, and from Salt Lake City and Provo, were the special guests of club members as they met on May 4th at the Nephi School of Music for a Dinner Party in celebratlon of the twentieth anniversary of the club. Mrs. Jay Dailey, club Var-iet- te president, conducted. A beautifully decorated cake formed the centerpiece for the table which was done to match tiny corsage favors later worn by each lady. After dinner a history of the club was presented by Mrs, Vaughn J. Paxman, a charter member. Other charter members who have remained as members Include Mrs. J. Barres Jenkins, Mrs. Dee Wright, Mrs. Lynn Parkin, Mrs. Waldon Reed and Mrs. Kay Stuart. Mrs. Paxman pointed out that the club name, Variette was suggested by Verna Wright and was unamiously adopted In 1949. This name suggests the variety of purpose and of topics covered in the club over the years. A scrap book covering events of the past 20 years of club work was one of the highlights of the evening, as everyone in attendance reminisced through the years. One of the projects which Variette Club was noted for over the years was a standing project of furnishing a layette to the Welfare Department. This project was begun in 1949 as a lending layette made up of used baby clothes furnished by the club members. The Welfare Department contacted Variette club when the need for a layette arose, and there always was one available. This project was discontinued in 1965, ved the community, and has paticipated in community projects, including presentation of fall furniture to the County Hospital, books to the Elementary School and the Public Library, money for band uniforms, plants for the planter box in the Juab Stake House, a clock for the Juab Stake Seminary, money to the Mt. Nebo Care and Traning Center, and others. The closing event of the anniversary party was a delightful music program presented by Ronald Richardson and Donnell Blackham, followed by a tour of the Whitmore house where the Nephi School of Music is located. Mrs. Vaughn J. Paxman served as chairman for this event, with Mrs. J. Barres Jenkins, und Mrs. Kay Stuart, 'Mrs. Dee Mrs. Waldon Mrs. Reed, Wright, 11b Lynn Parkin, Mrs. Leland Ostler, Mrs. Jay Dailey and Mrs. Rex Carter serving on the committees.
