Clarion The ahletic program at Juab High School has been a full one this year, with football, basketball, wrestling, tennis, track and baseball. Coach D. L. Davies, a new coach at Juab, coached an unfamiliar team this year in football. The team won one game, against Wasatch Academy, 19 to 13. According to Coach Davies, the team showed great Improvement in the season, running new formations, and gained coordination of plays. "We expect a high percentage of returning players stated Coach Davies. "We will be running the same formations, and expect to improve considerably. this year were Hap White and Van Gardner. Next years captains are Cliff Howard and Dennis TruscotL In basketbarU, the team coached by Kelvin Clayton tied for first place in the Sanpete division with North Sanpete, with seven wins and one loss. "A new record probably was set in scoring, in the Wasatch Academy game Coach Clayton said, with a score of 10633! Bryce Lynn was included on 9 the Deseret News team, first team, and Carl Howard, Steve Nyman and Bob Shepherd were on the second team. The basketball squad is losing five seniors. Special thanks and congratulations from Basketball Coach Clayton are extended to Steve Nyman, Bryce Lynn, Harlo Newton, Dennis Steele and Leon Pexton. Dennis Truscott and Ed. Newton were captains of this years wrestling team on which 12 wrestlers lettered, seven of whom will return. The team is losing Clyde Hayes, Hap White and Richard Daley, who took third place in state competition. There were three lettermen in tennis: Tam Johnson, Dennis Jensen and Clyde Gowers, who are first, second and third in singles competition. The team lost to Wayne high for a chance to go to the state meet. According to Coach Clayton all team members will return next year. A school record was broken by Cliff Howard in the javelin throw. He threw it 157 feet 8 inches. The track team was strong in the sprints, and Dennis Steele was strong inr the high jump. Gordon Paxmar., Bruce Beal and Carl Howard were good in the broad jump.
