'I he dun Jiuin Rcccv HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER TOR SAN JUAN COUNTY UTAH SINCE 1915 6 Thank you for helping with celebration Dear Editor: would like to publicly thank all of those individuals that donated time and energy to make our 24th of July Celebration a success. A lot of good people in our community donate many hours to make this a better place to live. Many businesses in town give of their time and Chammoney to make events such as the 24th a welcome addition. ber members (businesses and individuals) pay dues each year. These funds are used towards events such as the 24th celebration. I appreciate the willingness of the businesses to help these projects move forward. It is exciting to see the events improve a little each year. The Tractor pull was attended by over 400 people with many participants from different areas. The Parade, Talent Show, Dance, Alumni Festivities, and Fireworks were all very well attended. KAAJ 103.5 was a great addition with live broadcast of the Parade and supfireplying music for the Fireworks. The music that accompanied the works was a great addition to the overall effect of the Display. I thank the Fire Department for the help with fireworks and the City for funding the fireworks. The Tractor Club and the Tractor Pull is a great event. I am anxious to hear the Big Four roar down the track. Donate to the restoration and become part of the event. I would probably miss too many people to thank them individually so I will express my appreciation to all who have donated time and enI like feedback on what ergy' to make the celebration a success. always w e can do better and what went well. Coming off the 1 0 green each of us had been beaten by the Bogie Ogre and it appeared that it would not be the last meeting with this dreaded enemy. The ra-trhythm of the clubs was as foreboding as the drums of hell as we ascended the cart path to the dreaded 11th tee box. 157 yards of thick bru-cedar trees, and sand lay between the man and the cup which he has pursued like crusaders of old searching for the Holy Grail. It seemed as if minions of the devil himself had placed the pin which was precarious!', positioned in the front left of the green a mere 10 yards from the from rough. To get on this green in one takes a steady hand and a clear mind, blocking out the oak directly in front, the pinionjuniper on the left and the abyss which has made more then one golfer leave the game forever. To create a birdie chance is next to impossible, requiring a solid tee shot and catching the proper shelf for a chance at a one putt. Many have tried and many have died seeking the chance of par in the valley of despair sitting just short of this narrow green. The greens are in incredible shape, making a miss-hi- t putt run away from the hole like a rabbit from ball hunting boys. The wind was and the greens as smooth as silk. He took the box and teed the ball. Stepping away to survey the foe he faced. His back swing was seamless and follow through resembled that of a Greek god. The cleanly struck ball sailed high in the air gaining altitude and then the descent, thoughts of too short came to mind but never did the mans conviction waver. The ball struck terra firma short of the hole on the skirt and after one bound found its home in the cup. Shouts of glee erupted as he walked down the cart path to retrieve the blessed sphere. Shane Brewer stepped on the tee box a mortal, and stepped off a supernatural being. So the next time you step on to number 11 tee box, throw a Titlest in the brush for Shane. Signed in Awe, Aaron C.
