They packed a lot of fun jokes and good music into one evening. Shirley sang along with tapes by her brother, Carl Smith, including, Shes Nobodys Darlin But Mine, and How Great Thou Art. J.J. played many of our favorites on his harmonica. Among them were, Red Wing, Lady of Spain and the Tennessee Waltz. His new harmonica amplifiers worked well. Doyle Rowley had a good firing squad joke to loosen us up and then gave us musical background history before he sang Play Misty for Me and You Are. Then he had us sing along with This Land is Your Land and Youre A Grand Old Flag with help from Marilyn. Ray Jarvis played several of his original compositions on the piano, The Roses Cried Tears and Jealous Heart, ending with the Rose of Tralee. A nice evening for everyone. Lathel Shepherd, John Himmelberger and I are amazed how fast the bright goldfinches, Red House and Cassins Finches, Evening Grosbeaks, Stellars Jays, Redwinged Blackbirds and Eurasian Collared Doves plus the rest of our wild bird bunch can clean out our bird feeders lately. They empty all the feeders in only hours! But when these blooming dandelions go to seed, the goldfinches and little birds will go after them. I counted a dozen bright yellow black goldfinches in my spruce tree feeder. The blankets of purple mustard weed and filarce have been so beautiful wild-flower- s, this spring. Just lovely mounds everywhere you look! I enjoyed the painted lady butterfly migration these past few weeks, also. Nice to have some color return. Around the 22nd I got buzzed by a hummingbird so had to put out those feeders, too. Its good to finally have some of the Park Plaza Apartments finished after their extensive remodeling. Everyone in the newly redone apartments is pleased to be in them. The seniors are looking forward to moving into their redone apartments also, although they will miss Phyllis Swank, who was the friendly manager. I want to commend our new city trash truck driver, Mark Robinson. I noticed he picked up the windblown trash at the City Park the other day. Good for him! We all need to pick up any trash around town. Its good to have the Shake Shack, MD Ranch Cookhouse, Houstons and the Abajo Trading Post open again. Sure missed them all during this past winter. Hope the tourists and us here in Monticello will support these and all our other local businesses. See you in May!
