Native American youth conference Noxious Weed stu- Utah American Indian dents who have excelled in school were honored at the 7th Annual Native American Indian Youth Conference on Sat-- J urday, May 7 at Jordan High School in Sandy. This is a celebration of aca-- t tions. Other conference sponsors include: the Utah State Office of Education, Utah School Districts Title VII Programs, and the Commission for Women and Families. In previous years, attendance at the conference has been as high as demic achievement for our youth, said Yvette Donosso Diaz, executive director of the Utah Department of Commu-nit- y 700 people. The theme for the event is Standing Tall for Indian His- and Culture. We commend them for their achievement and encourage them to continue their education. This recognition is their re- ward for staying in school and for working hard , said F orrest Cuch, director of the Division of Indian Affairs, which is one of the event sponsors. American Indian students in Utah have the highest dropout rate in the state compared to the states other minority popula- - tory and Culture.
