Im thankful Steve and I are both home to celebrate Christmas with our kids. The gunfight began December 17 with a routine traffic stop for windows tinted too darkly on a car near Fjllmore. It ended with both troopers wounded and Matthew Taylor, age 31, of Littleton, CO, dead. Being in the same vehicle is rare for two troopers. However, Esplin had dropped his patrol car earlier that morning at a mechanics shop for an oil change and Millard County Chronicle Progress asked Mortensen for a ride. 5. Durango Weekly January 1 Big discovery in Kane County didnt realize he was makfind a when historic saw he ing something white sticking out from the dirt, but Oyler, in fact, had made a mammoth discovery. The bones are of a Colombian Mammoth, explained Dave Gillette, curator for the Museum of Northern Arizona. Radio carbon tests, on what appears to be the femur, shows that it dates back to just less than 12,000 B.C. Gillette said the find is especially significant, since it was not previously known that mammoths lived in southern Utah. It is believed that this particular mammoth lived and died in the location where it was discovered. The mammoth was a five or six ton adult, slightly bigger than a modern elephant. The bones are large and surprisingly well preserved for being in the area for 14,000 years. The proposed policy was modified to allow for collaborative development of educational plans by colleges and universities that are delivering services throughout the state, with special emphasis on ways to avoid duplication of administration and instruction. Educational plans will be ready for presentation at the January meeting of the Utah Board of Regents. According to college officials, a clearly defined written policy was adopted in 1993 that states that CEU would be responsible for lower division classes and USU would present upper division as well as graduate course work. Officials will look at ways for better coordination to provide more and faster service to the students in the area. CEU won the first round, and the momentum to Grand County is stopped, said Brad King, CEU dean of students and a mem- her of the Utah House of Representatives.
