TCT officials say that this loan guarantee, in addition to the $709,125 cash infusion, is sufficient for TCT to perform its mission, which is to improve telecommunications infrastructure and provide enhanced telecom services to the Four Corners region. Opponents to the plan, led by a group called Friends of the LPEA Board, fear that the investment may fail and result in higher electricity rates. They also state that management and staff of the project have a sweetheart deal to benefit from the project. Total loan guarantees by Empire and its partners apparently total more than $20 million. velop residence or business. Using TCT as the technical advisor, Empire and La Plata have entered into a partnership with two additional rural electric company formed in 1998 by Empire Electric, and La Plata Electric (LPEA) based in Durango, Colorado. The approach to to service the Four providing Corners region is to develop a backbone fiber connection to the rest of the country, then de Tri-Stat- two-prong- ed buquerque. The second prong, or last mile, is to provide increased bandwidth state-of-the-a- rt, from the backbone fiber project to businesses and residences in the communities. This will be done through wireless technoland ogy through a competitive local exchange carrier. TCT plans to have the last mile up and running prior to the time the region connects to the high-spee- d backbone fiber. An independent firm undertook an appraisal of TCT. The appraisal, based upon TCTs business plan, assets, income, holder, and the four rural electric cooperatives are collec- ing global economy. CORTEZ SEARS (continued page 2) see that the Glory of the Lord was present in my life and heart even when and if things were less than perfect. The world might be covered in thick darkness, but I didnt have to let it cover me. It is too easy to get caught up in looking at the darkness and what is not as you think it should be. There is darkness covering the earth, but you dont have to let it cover you and your life. For unto you is born a Savior that is Christ the Lord, if you can turn from focusing on the darkness and see the light of the new day. Peace on earth, it is easy to see lots of places where peace isnt, but the real question for me was, is it in my heart? can see place after place where the Savior doesnt reign, but He does in my life and is daily saving me. Changing me to the person I need to be and should be, and changing the way I look at life and the world around me so that I can see it in a new Light. Seeing the world in a new light has allowed me to see Christmas in a new way. You The world has never cel- ebrated Christmas as it should. Only three wise men saw the star and came and only a few shepherds heard the angels sing and went to see.
