Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, March 3, 1999 - Page 8 Broncos sweep n to basketball title Inter-Regio- With three impressive wins, the San Juan Broncos swept to the Inter-Regio- n basketball tournament championship and earned a top seed in the 2A state basketball tournament, which begins Thursday, March 4 at Southern Utah University in Cedar City. for the Bronco game Tip-oagainst the Manti Templars is at 10 a.m. With a win, the Broncos would advance to the semi-fincontest on Friday at 7 :30 pm. A loss would put the Broncos in a 4:30 pm contest Friday. The Broncos used superior athleticism to overwhelm the St. Joseph Jayhawks in the first round game. The followff al Count another three for the San Juan Broncos and Sheldon SpottedElk (23). SpottedElk hit three point shots in bunches n tournament, averaging 23 points a throughout the Staff photo game and earning Most Valuable Player honors. Inter-Regio- ing evening, San Juan dismantled a good Grand team with stifling defense to earn a berth in the championship game against the defending from state champions Grantsville. Once again, the Broncos jumped to an early lead and held off every Grantsville run to claim the title. Sheldon SpottedElk led the Broncos, scorching the nets with an average of 23 points per game. SpottedElk continues his torrid shooting from the three-poiline, where he has hit more than 60 percent of his bombs for the season. SpottedElk was named the Most Valuable Player on the All Tournament team. Broncos teammates Ronnie Nieves nt and France Nielson join SpottedElk on the All Tourney Team. Lady Bronco Sarah Swapp and Monticello Buckaroo Tyanne Scherick were named to the Girls All Tournament team.
