Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday April 8, 1998 new, By Mary Lou Mary Lou Hoggard 587-211- 4 pills and Dr. Penn: My miseries finally came to an end. I surely appreciate all those who phoned in news to me this week. I was sick and didnt know what was in our area. Otherwise, I would have had to tell of my childhood, when I was sick at Easter and licked all the candy in my basket so if anyone ate it, they would get sick like me. Danny and Alisa Rogers are happy over the arrival of their third daughter, Amy Rose, who was born at the San Juan Hospital. Amy is the granddaughter of Buck and Edna Rogers and Lynn and Louanne Whimpey. Grandma Whimpey came from Seattle to help out with the new one and spend time with granddaughters Kara and Ashley Rogers. Lyn and Shirley Carter enjoyed visiting family and friends and getting a few rounds of golf in after bringing home Shirleys mother, Katy Carhart. Katy spent the winter in Cascade, Idaho after the death of husband John. Katy likes to have company and may even share popcorn with you. HAPPY EASTER TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND READERS. ROUND THE REGION Duchesne wins Academic Decathlon Duchesne - Nine Duchesne high school students recently brought home the first place trophy in the small school category of the academic decathlon. The Duchesne team placed eighth in the overall competition, competing with all the high school teams in Utah. With just 150 students, Duchesne outscored larger schools such as Highland High (2000 students), Fremont (1850 students) and Weber High (1650 students). Competing against students throughout the state, Senior Michelle Sweat received a second place medal for global economics. This is amazing since economics is not Uintah Basin Standard offered at the high school. Thirty-nin- e Winter events is subject of study Concerned with the need to bolster shoulder and offseason visitation to South- eastern Utah, Utahs Travel Canyonlands Re- gion has undertaken a winter event feasibility study. The purpose of the feasibility study is to determine if a winter event, or events, is possible and if area businesses are willing to support such an effort. Utahs Canyonlands is also asking The Alferio Group to look at potential dates, types of events, potential partici- pants, locations, infrastructure needs, projected attendance and revenues and recommendations for potential sponsors. The study will be completed by mid-Jun- e. The Region is committed to promoting the shoulder seasons in order to bolster the economy during traditionally slower months. 251 N.
