Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday April 21, 1993 Page 6 Junior livestock hog and lamb new rules apply weigh-in- , The junior weigh-i- n livestock for hogs and lambs will be held on May 8 at the San Juan County Fairgrounds. It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will last two hours, ending at 11:00. In 1993 a new rule has been made that will apply to youth having livestock in An existing Monticello. ordinance city prohibits the raising of livestock in resi- dential areas. Much to the delight of the junior livestock board of directors, the Monticello city council has adopted a policy that is similar to that currently being used in Bland-ing- . Youth will be allowed to raise lambs for the season as long as they meet certain criteria. Because of obvious reasons, including health precautions, hogs must still be kept outside the 4-- H city. Each lamb owner must obtain an application from the county extension office, completely fill it out and turn it into the city office. This registers the animals with the city. Secondly, the livestock pens and housing must be kept immaculately clean. This will be policed by the junior livestock board of directors and the county agricultural agent. When the lambs are being broken to lead or exercised by being taken for a walk, they must be kept off the sidewalk. Every youth who will be raising a lamb is encouraged strongly to abide by the wishes of the city council. It will make the junior livestock organization a better program, and a more integral part of the community.
