Wednesday April 18, 1990 - Page 24 Bluff man and Blanding man new on BLM multiple-us- e advisory council Bill Davis of Bluff and Keele Johnson of Blanding have accepted appointment to the BLM Moab District 'Multiple Use Advisory Council. The council meets monthly to discuss multiple use of land administered by the BLM. t)avis, director of Abajo Archaeology, will represent nonrenewable resources. He was nominated by Joyce Martin, publisher of the San Juan Record, and Utah Congressman Howard Nielson. Keele, talent search director for the College of Eastern Utah San Juan Center, will represent recreation. Keele, who submitted a nomination for himself, is president of the San Juan Education Association, state chairman of the Utah Bighorn Sheep Society, a licensed certified social worker, and represents southern Utah on the Educational Excellence Committee for the Utah Education Association. Other members of the council and the area they represent are: Calvin Black of Blanding, elected official. Black, a San . Juan County commissioner, is also a member of the National Public Lands Advisory Council. Sherri Griffith of Moab, Griffith is a river expedition and safari operator and former faculty member at Utah State University. Bevan K. Wilson of Hunting-ton- , Utah, public at large, A livestockman, businessman, miner and Emery County commissioner, Wilson serves on the Governors Advisory Council on Intergovernmental Affairs. Marilyn Bicking, wildlife. Bicking, a registered nurse who lives in Moab, does voluntary work with the Moab Raptor Rehabilitation Center. Bill Cunningham, renewable A rancher and resources. hunter, Cunningham has previously served with the board. Sue Halliday of Monticello, environmental protection. Halliday, member of the Canyon-land- s Natural History Association and the San Juan County Travel Council, has served previously with the board. Dix (Butch) Jensen of Price, renewable resources. Dix is a board member of the Utah : IMPORTANT VALUE! Cattlemans Association and a member of the Eastern Utah Cattlegrowers Association. He is a Moab District range permittee. John M. Garr, transportation and rights-of-waGarr, a resident of East Carbon, is a former Utah state legislator, a former advisory council member, and officer for Coastal States Energy Public Affairs. y. In response to a request by Kent Adair, Monticello chief of police, the Lions voted to contribute $75 to bring Needra Troyer, a nationally known specialist on drug abuse, to Monticello. Adair said he had another commitment for the remainder of the $150 fee Troyer will charge to conduct two seminars at the elementary school on April 19. Max Halls, Lion president, reported that the state Lions office is asking chibs and local Lions to contribute funds for a $600,000 opthamology research laboratory at the University of Utah, and to aide a fellow Lion who needs open heart surgery. The club tabled action pending consultation with the Lions district governor, who will be the guest speaker at the Lions Ladies Night Banquet on April 23. President Halls told club members the Jeep safari at Arch Canyon on April 6 and 7, which was catered by the club, was a success. ' He said the anticipated blockade by environmental groups never materialized. Halls extended thanks to the office of the county sheriff and the Ute Tribal police fqr having officers on stand-b- in the event of y trouble. Monticello Lions will donate $320 to a Blanding women whose child has spina bifida. The Lions received the money from the Moab Lions for selling circus tickets for the Moab group. Rigby Wright, club secretary, distributed Lions Mints to be placed in local businesses. Proceeds will go to various 40 COMPARE!
