Cultural activities planned for the youth for early 1991 include an evening at the symphony, concerts, plays and sporting events. The students are freshman, sophomores and juniors. The students will end the summer component with a week in the city. Activities will include visits to Weber State College to meet with other Upward Bound students. Stops at the Uni activ- Monroe for the Region X Band and Chorus Competition on April 10. Music students from Millard, Monroe, Beaver, Kanab, Richfield, Hurricane, Salina, Delta and Blanding competed for the right to represent the region at the state festivals in May. Two bands and two choirs received straight superior ratings, and qualified for the state festivals. Bands from San Juan High and Hurricane, and choirs from Delta and Hurricane received superior ratings and will make the trip to state. The San Juan High chorus received ratings of excellent plus and superior minus. I am very proud of the band members. The 6:30 a.m. rehearsals have been hard for all of us, but they sure paid off.
