Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday March 7, 1990 Page 12 Broncos open state play tonight by Niel Joslin Junior Brook Shumway and senior Mike Brown combined for 27 points Friday afternoon to help the San Juan Broncos hold off the Millard Eagles in round two of the Region 10 high school boys basketball tournament. The win propelled the Broncos into the state tourney for a matchup with the North Sanpete Wolves this evening at 6 p.m. at the Centrum in Cedar City. Half points respectively. The two 1989 graduates of San Juan High School are recipients of scholarships from the Castle Foundation. Hughes is a daughter of James and Sallie Hughes of Blanding. She plans to minor in education and is active in jazz band, concert choir and concert band. She is also a Sterling Scholar, in mathematics, and is a CEU math tutor. Martineau is a daughter of Gary and Bonnie Martineau of Blanding. She plans to minor in mathematics and is in the intercollegiate honors band. Cowboy poet Finlay Bayles and Merry Adams, English instructor at the College of n Eastern Utah San Juan Center, will be ampng those featured at ' the poetry read-in- . Read-i- n student organizer Kim Hurst says selected high school, middle school, and elementary school students have been invited to share their poetry as well. The Richfield n Foster care The Department of Social Services announced that as a result of issues raised in an adoption case involving a family named Bullock, the department has implemented a number of changes. The Department of Social Services revised their policy to state that 'any foster child under the age of five years old must be placed in a home that meets adoption standards. A statewide Foster Care Task Force has been established to review policy and procedures.
