Older, SERAPHINE FROST Seraphine Smith Frost, age 97, passed away April 1, 1989 at her home in Monticello, Utah. She was bom August 19, 1891 in Snowflake, Arizona to Silas D. and Ellen Larson Smith. Her grandfather, Mons Larson, was with the group called to settle San Juan County, and who built the passage through the Hole in the Rock. Upon Clarences return from his mission, he accepted employment as ranch foreman for Charles Redd at La Sal, Utah. Seraphine cooked for the ranch hands, washed and ironed their clothes, and made and sold butter to help earn money. The family moved back to Monticello in the spring of 1929. They farmed at Dodge Point, had a lumber yard, operated a flour mill, and owned and operated the Blue Mountain Guest Ranch. Seraphine was always active in the LDS Church. She and Clarence filled two stake mismissions sions, two to California, and two missions to the Southwest Indian Mission. After the death of Clarence in 1965, Seraphine was an ordinance worker in the Arizona Temple for five years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for many years and in 1932 was the president of that organization. She faithfully kept a journal and enjoyed her hobbies until the end. She is survived by five children: Willamelia Barton and Melvin Frost of Mesa, Arizona, Alfred Frost, Kent Frost and Pearl Lewis of Monticello; a brother, Mons Smith of Monticello; a sister, Ellen Haycock of Salt Lake City; 24 grandchildren, 114 and 79 six-mont- great-grandchildre- h n, n. Funeral services were held at the Monticello LDS Stake Center on April 4 with Bishop Terry Eardley conducting. Interment was at Monticello City Cemetery. However, she was a very friendly person and it wasnt long until she made many friends. She did get homesick but her trips back to Snowflake were few and far between. From Mexico they went to Richfield, Utah. In 1920 the family moved to Blanding. Freda married Joseph C. Hunt in 1925 and Blanding became their home. They had a truck line and a store.
