Katie and Saige flew to Phoenix and then flew with Leonard Hurst to Blanding. Bill and Gary drove up later. The Blanding Fifth Ward Relief society had their annual Relief Society birthday party on March 10 at the Blanding North Chapel. There was a very good turnout. Dora Bayles is in Eager, Arizona visiting with her Phil Foutz New owners Phil and Ann Foutz of Kirtland, New Mexico have purchased the Blanding Merc and will operate it under the name of Blanding Market. Lifetime residents of the Four Comers, the Foutzs own and operate the Dennehotso Trading Post on the Navajo Indian Reservation. We are excited to be here, says Phil, and look forward to meeting the people of Blanding. We hope customers will come over and introduce them- daughter, Julie Johnson, and family. She traveled to Eager with La Verne Tate. Jack and LaVeme Tate are the grandparents of a new grandson. Ethan Chad was bom February 26 and his parents are Rick and Julie Holliday of Egar, Arizona. Saturday the weather was great. There were a lot of people who took advantage of the nice weather and spent the day cleaning their yards. Carl and DeeAnn Hunt concluded the day by hosting a spur of the moment barbeque. Everyone had an enjoyable time: eating, relaxing and visiting. Scout leaders Richard Watkins (Blazers), Russ Stevenson and Dan Hurst (Scouts), Taylor Palmer (Varsity) and Tim Reed also were congratulated for their ef fective leadership. Guest speaker at the banquet was Finley Bayles, district advancement chairman. He challenged parents to use their influence to see that boys earned the Eagle rank, even it it means holding up drivers license applications!
