Black, of Bland- ing, achieved honor roll status at Dixie College during fall quarter, with a grade point average of 3.639. Marine Pfc. Jeffrey Rock, son of Jack and Betty Rock of Blanding recently departed on a three-wee- k deployment to Puerto Rico with 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While deployed, Rock will participate in a training exercise culminating with live-fir- e exercises, amphibious assaults, and extended range raids High School students who performed in Honor Choir and Honor Band programs at the College of Eastern Utah in Price. Monticello Honor Choir students are: Collette Francom, Lana McDonald, Toby Pehrson, Jeannie Peterson, Marty Rogers, Matt Peterson, Chantelle Nebeker, Denette Hatch, Rachelle Tracy, Julie Kilgrow, Bonnie Suttlemyre, Dusty McDonald, Chartrand, Kristie Wikle, Brett Peterson. Jill Christensen, Justin Peterson, Stephanie Christensen, Cherie Peterson, and Stephonie Kilgrow. Honor Band members are: Lorla Pehrson, Jim Moore, Toni Rouse, Marc Wikle, Zane Chartrand, Shirley Moore, David Rice, April Leeson, Valerie Richardson, and Curtis Kari Rogers. Jolyn Grover daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Merlin Grover of Blanding, was recently named winner of the 1988 Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award. The award, nationwide by sponsored Dekalb-Pfize- r Genetics, is pre- sented to the outstanding senior agriculture student demonstrating superior scholarship, leadership and supervised agricultural program. Jolyn has been president of San Juan Highs FFA for two years and was a delegate to the national convention in Kansas City. Her agricultural program consists of fat steers shown at the San Juan County Junior Master Livestock Show. Following graduation, Jolyn plans to attend UVCC to certify technician and then as an y to study genetics. X-ra- leading to the designation Special Operations Capable. A 1986 graduate of San Juan High School, Rock joined the Marine Corps in March 1987. Miles Cap Ferry, Utahs commissioner of agriculture, has announced the appointment of El Shaffer as in- Vicki Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Christensen of Monticello, has been called to serve for 18 months in the Philippines Cagayan deOro mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. Brian G. Goodwine, son of Tanya Goodwine of Monticello and the late Jim Goodwine, has been called to serve for 24 months in the Porto Portugal mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. A farewell service will be held on March 20 at 10:30 a.m. Goodwine will enter the mission training center on March 30.
