Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wechesday September 2, 1987 - Page 7 Groves congregation, a work crew of 10 men blossomed into a work party of 33, some of whom were women and children. They worked under the leadership of Jimmy Robins. In addition to remodeling the kitchen and classrooms, they installed a new shower and did some painting. Not all was work, however. Bags, a Texas clown better known as Danny Cook of 3 Special Ministeries, joined Jimmy Robbins (right) of Texas and Chuck Humphreys of Monticello consult Frank Morrell photo during remodeling of Monticello First Baptist Church. Baptist church remodeled by Texans The kitchen and classrooms at the First Baptist Church in Monticello have a new look, thanks to the generosity of the First Baptist Church of Groves, Texas. The work was accomplished with over $4,700 in donations and the equivalent of $50,000 worth of volunteer labor, mostly that of a work crew from Texas. Of the donations, $2,000 came from the Groves church budget, $2,200 from the Groves congregation, and $500 frbm the Monticello congregation. The Texans had planned to hold a revival in Monticello, but changed their minds when they learned the Monticello church 500-memb- er er needed some refurbishing. When the word went out to the Butterball, a clown known locally as Sue Morrell, to entertain the children one evening. Also, young adults of the Monticello church hosted the visitors to a cookout on the Blue Mountains. Bags, speaking for the Texans, said the Groves crew came to Monticello because . . . there was a need here. He says their visit was enhanced by the friendly attitude of the natives and the courteous and helpful sales people. David Brown, pastor of the Monticello First Baptist Church, invites the public to drop in and see the remodeling. The First Baptist Church is situated at 92 East 500 North.
