The guidelines can assist daycare providers and also provide criteria for parents who seek daycare for their children. Any one in Utah who cares for four or more children for a fee on a regular basis must be licensed. This applies to children under the age of 14 who are cared for outside their own home for more than four hours. Relatives caring for children are exempt as well as programs provided by parochial institu- tions. It is advantageous to parents to know what is expected of licensed providers. Licensed providers are evaluated on a regular basis by a representative of the local Social Service agency. Evaluators look for things such as provision of warmth and friendliness, good health practices, outlets for childrens creativity, and childproofing of the home itself. Anyone wishing more information on licensing guidelines may call or visit Social Services in Blanding, 678-231- 1. of New Mexico.
