Lyman is a candidate on the Republican primary ticket for state representative, District 74, San Juan and Grand counties. . So far in this campaign, my public statements have emphasized the importance of economic development and expansion of the economic base for this district. I am committed to this concept, and to illustrate that com mitment, I have attempted to outline my qualifications based on my ex- perience and activities. . At the present time my work is with Utah Navajo industries, a company whose goal is to en- hance the economic well being of Utah Navajos through the establishment of profitable bus Letters to the editor The Record welcomes letters from its readers on any subject ofpublic interest. The use of these trust funds is restricted by statute to San Juan County, and as I indicated in my remarks to the State delegates, any change in that restriction would need to be a legislative change. 1 think you can rest assured that we are very much aware of our trust responsibilities, and the trust will not be violated. This does not, however, preclude UNI from recognizing these same economic needs of Navajos who live in areas outside of San Juan County, including Grand County, and to actively investigate the possible use of its own resources to help meet those needs. Now, with that brief ex- planation, let me say that a promise of the Navajo vote, and a promise of Navajo money for economic development in Grand County, are your words, not mine. Our boys went to defend their country, and while there were some who didn't love their country, they kept a low profile because most of us did, and patriotism ran high. We listened intently to each news broadcast to learn of each battle: how great was the victory, how numerous the casualties. We prayed and we had a common bond of caring with our fellow . citizens. As the national anthem was played we stood with tears streaming down our faces. . We also stood, with hand over heart or in salute when Old Glory went by, as shivers of emotion went through our bodies at the love we felt as we honored the symbol of our great nation. We were careful to see that the flag was shown proper respect and treated in the correct manner. When we pledged allegiance to the flag, it was not in thoughtless repetition, but with intense sincerity.
