Having come from a large family herself, Jean seemed to love and know how to get along with children. She never scolded or got angry with her students. Instead of pointing out a naughty child she concentrated on the positive accompli- shments of her children. She maintained excellent discipline in her classroom; if the children became noisy she would blow her tiny harmonica and silence would follow. Jean kept badges for special student achievements and if a child was extra good she might get to hold the doll that Jean kept in her room for that purpose. Jean would often come to school early so as not to get behind in her schedule. A colleague praised her on going out of her way to help a new teacher to avoid her own past mistakes. Jean was a friendly, generous person. She once stated that she had held lots of difficult jobs but she would never trade teaching. This past summer Jean had along the West Coast, visiting national parks, and fishing in western waters. back-pack- ed She enjoyed bicycling, jogging, and loved her dog Holiday and her many houseplants.
