The two clubs have met twice in state competition. The first time South Summit came out on top 6 and the second time Monticello South Buck Coach Joe Davis is expecting a tough defensive battle when the Monticello club meets 7-- won 8-- 6. South Summit cames into the game with a 5- and a tie for first place in Region 11 with North Summit. In its six region games South Summit scored 239 points while giving up only 31. Monticello finished in second place in its Region 10 race with a 2 mark behind -1 6-- East Carbons 8-- 0. TheBucks have tallied 220 points and have given up 96 points. The Bucks didn't give up any points in their last outing last Friday, stopping the Altamont Longhorns 25-- 0. It was the final regular season game for the Bucks. The kids played hard, Buck Coach Davis said of the Altamont game. Monticello-Altamo- nt The game started out as a tough defensive battle with the Bucks holding a 0 first half lead. The Bucks tallied two more touchdowns in the third quarter and added another TD in the fourth quarter. A penalty brought back one Altamont TD. The Bucks put up a tough stand to stop a touchdown and a fumble into the end zone stopped another Altamont treat. A fumble recovery on Altamont s line set up the Bucks first score in the sec6-- Monticellos Gary Torres proved to be elusive in last Friday's Region 10 football battle with the Altamont Longhorns. The pass to was on fourth Hugentobler down and 10. After the kickoff Altamont fumbled on the first play and Monticello took over on Alta-mon- ts 48 and marched for TD. Torres carried for the last yard on the last play of the third quarter and Monticello was on top 19-- 0 following Doug Wights extra point kick. In the fourth quarter Alta-mon- ts Micky Feldsted had a run and was pushed out of long bounds on Monticellos two or three yard line. On the play he fumbled into the end zone and Monticello recovered for a touchback. Two minutes after the fumble recovery Hansen hit Ivan Mitchell on a TDpass a 25-- 0 to Bucks the give play lead with 4:07 left in the game. The Bucks offense looked tough. They rushed for 193 yards with Torres picking up 81 yards, Hugentobler 71 and Hansen 26. The Bucks gained 176 yards in the air with Van 62-ya- rd Codner grabbing three passes for 44 yards and Mitchell one for 62 yards. Monticello held the Long- horns to 129 yards rushing and 14 yards passing. said that Coach Davis Torres and Hansen did good jobs on offense. He said that Hansen called a good game. The Bucks took home the first place trophy with 15 points last Thursday. Green River was second in the race with 68 while host Tabiona was points third with 79 points. Other schools entered were Duchesne and East Carbon. The Bucks were to race in and the state championship meet yesterday (Wednesday) at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. The Bucks took the first five places in the region meet at Tabiona with Bob DeRieux coming in first with a clocking of 18 minutes 35 seconds. Coach Joe Davis said that the Bucks ran just fast enough to win and that they should have faster times in the state race. It was the first time the Bucks had competed in crosscfive-scho- ol 1-- A 2-- A ountry. David Hansen ran to second place with a time of 18:54 while Mark Hugentobler was third in 19:18.
