Show Emery County Progress, Caste Da.e, Utah - Tuesday, December 1 4, 1 999 Since the first of December, Emery High School has welcomed the holiday season. The Twelve Days of Christmas By Holly Scarlet Spartan Page editor Everyone has their own idea of tire Twelve Days of Christmas. Some may think of the song and some may think of family traditions, but Emery High has its own version. The Twelve Days of Christmas at Emery High began on Tuesday, Dec. 7, under the direction of the Student Council. This day w as Christmas Trivia Contest Day. Santa went around to those classrooms which teachers allowed to participate, and he brought presents, Mrs. Claus and an elf. To get one of the presents, students had to answer trivia questions about Christmas. The second day of Christmas was Be My Secret Reindeer Day. If a student wanted to, he or she could send a Secret Crush" to any other student in the school. The delivery was an Orange candy cane w hich cost participants one dollar. The student would take the gift to the office or to a student council member which was then taken to Santa and his elf. Students could pay additional fees to f nd out w ho sent the message, or the person who sent the message could pay to keep the gift anonymous. The Third Day of Christmas was the Class Decorating Contest Day. Each first period class could decorate classrooms to compete for a student-councsponsored breakfast on Friday. The winning class was Mr. Morrell's. Honorable Mention breakfasts went to Mr. Christensens class, Mr Larsons class, and Mr. Peacocks class. On The Fourth Day of Christmas a dance was held after the basketball game. Since it was held in the halls of the Science Wing, the dance was called the Deck the Halls Dance." All seniors got in free, and the student council honored the Ultimate Fan from the game, the one w ho yelled the loudest and had the most school spirit, with a $50 cash prize. Yesterday, The Fifth Day of Christmas, was Christmas Wish Day. Each student could write their Christmas wish on a board in front of the office. The winning entry will be honored later this week. Today the council is hosting a Christmas movie and fee eggnog, hot cocoa and donuts after the girls basketball game. Tomorrow, The Seventh Day of Christmas, is Fiesta Christmas Day. There will be pinatas in the old gym during lunch periods. Students are encouraged to dress-u- p like Old Mexico" and prizes w ill go to the best costumes. The Eighth Day of Christmas is Christmas Dress-u- p Day. Students w ho dress up like a tree, a may also win prizes. present, Santa, or anything Christmas-lik- e The Ninth Day of Christmas is Shoulder Stocking Day. Students are asked to w ear stockings on their shoulders, and if they do, they will be given candy. Also, there is a writing contest on Why I Deserve a Gift from Santa on the 22nd." Entries are due on Dec. 17. The Tenth Day of Christmas is Class Caroling Day. During first period, classes will compete in a singing contest. The class with the best song will be awarded breakfast cooked by the student Crush-flavor- ed il council. On the Eleventh Day of Christmas there w ill be a White Elephant Gift Day. On White Elephant Day, everyone w ho w ants to can bring a wrapped present and exchange their gifts each class ' period. At the end of the day, the gifts are opened. On The Tw elfth Day of Christmas, the Hit Squad" will bring gifts for the writing contest w inners. For teachers choosing not to participate in any of these activities, the student council provided Do Not Disturb" signs to be placed in the hallway. As for traditions with Emery High students, things may be different. Erinn Turners Christmas tradition is to wake up around 6 a.m. and start ripping open presents as fast as I can, until my Mom comes in and tells me to stop and w ait until Christmas is here. She also said that to some it may not be much of a tradition, but I enjoy it" Anya Powells family has a Christmas tradition w here on Christmas E e they w ill open one present from a brother or sister and then wait until Christmas to open the rest. Jessica Petersen enjoys her familys tradition. They open a present from a brother or sister and then on Christmas morning they wake up and call her grandparents. When her grandparents arm e. they open the gifts and have Christmas dinner. Hillary Barneys family opens one gift on Christmas E e, and the gift is something that they can wear to bed, like slippers or pajamas or something like that. Last car I got Elmo slippers. she said. Jesse Kellers family tradition involves food. English Trifle is w hat we ha e," he said. His famil goes to his grandmas house, and they eat dinner and have the traditioaal English Tnfie. The English Trifle is prepared by layers of pudding, cake, fruit and nuts. "It's good.
