I tried to patiently explain to him how I had been studying and working hard for the past few weeks, that his playing would only hold me down, and I didnt want to spend that much time going around the course. Right up until the time when I teed off, he was still begging me to let him play too. Still, I did not give in. I pushed the tee into the grass, carefully set the ball on it and readied myself. Several practice swings, as I had been taught, then whack! The ball sailed beautifully out over the fairway for about 75 yards, then started a slow curve to the right. I watched in horror as it made its way off the course, and out of sight. Hmm, I thought, just a slight error in judgment. On the second ball I spent a little extra time sizing up the situation and making the proper correction. By the time I was ready, I knew this drive would result in an eagle, or birdie, at least. Most of you have come up through the ranks when it comes to knowledge of golfing. You probably learned a little here and there, and took trail and error methods just to learn how to keep from slicing off to the left, or to the right. Right? I want you to know I was formally schooled on how to chase the little white ball around the golf course. I know, I know. Some of you are saying if Im so smart on the subject, why am I not out on tour, winning mucho money, showing off my talent? Ill reserve my answer to that question while I explain a couple of things. In the training I had, we werent allowed to go on the golf course until we had learned the finer points of the game. For example, there were nets available to learn to drive a ball, without having to chase it later. At first, the ball could be predicted to do one thing--g- o any direction but the right one. Thats where we learned to eliminate POLITICALLY CORRECT the Invitation much to their credit. It is customary for a color guard and flag bearers to be at the front of a parade.
