The Oldsmobile was headed eastbound on with four occupants, two males and two females, when it was seen leaving the interstate at mile marker 215. The vehicle was then seen getting back on the interstate but witnesses did not see the two females who had been riding in the back seat. Thinking that something had happened to the two women, the concerned citizens notified the highway patrol and an attempt to located was placed on the vehicle. Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Boyd Gledhill located and stopped the vehicle at mile marker 159. When Gledhill stopped the vehicle he could see that the two females were again in the back seat. Gledhill asked why they had left the interstate and the occupants stated that they needed a restroom. He then asked the occupants where they were headed and they stated they were going to Las Vegas overnight. He then asked if they were carrying any guns or drugs and the occupants were very hesitant to answer before saying No. Gledhill then asked for consent to search the vehicle. Upon receiving their consent he located a Colt Mark 4, 45 caliber, handgun under the drivers seat and a half pound of methamphet-amine- s in a microwave popcorn box in an overnight bag in the back ... 1-- seat. The two males and two females, along with a child, were taken into custody. When troopers questioned the suspects it was determined that the handgun belonged to Martin Martinez of Vernal, and the half pound of belonged to Enrique Ruiz. Ruiz signed a written statement that the drugs were his and that the other occupants of the vehicle did not know they were there.
