I have know the love and excitement of living in a big family. I have seen what can happen when one is ill or hurt, and how the family will rally round to help and care for the one in need. I know the feeling of loving care when I was ill, but never in all my life have I seen anything like the experience Kenny Price had as you will see in this story. This story begins over 26 years ago when a baby boy was born in Cedar City into the Jim and Norma Price family which already had four children, and in due time four more children were born. Now, on the 4th of May, 1969, when Kenny, the fifth baby was born, his brother welcomed the new little one and a bond was formed that has lasted these 26 years and continues to this day. Kenny's brother, Darrell, became his best friend from birth. As they grew, the bond of friendship and love remained and grew with them. Their mother, Norma, said it was a usual sight to see them walking together with their little arms around each other. The entire family had a special bonding. All 11 of them would hike together, picnic together and especially, climb mountains together. And there were lots of mountains to climb around Cedar City. They especially liked to go to Wood's Ranch, a lovely recreation area a few miles east up Cedar Canyon. I well remember Wood's Ranch which spread out in the cove to the right of Highway 14, not far from the sharp where the road begins its family loved to visit "Gramma Price" in Cedar City and "Gran Schreiter" in Salt Lake City. I almost forgot to tell you how they all loved to go swimming. In fact, as he grew older Kenny became an expert swimmer. Kenny also loved trains and at Christmas time a train would be his favorite toy. It didn't matter how big or small the train was, he cherished it, and this love of trains lasted for years to come. In 1980, the family moved to Castle Dale. They lived in a large mobile home. The power plant brought lots of people to Castle Valley, and there was a housing shortage, but the mobile home was adequate for their needs at this time, and they were very happy there. By now Kenny was in the fifth grade and baseball was his newest love. He was an All Star pitcher. In the seventh grade it was football; and in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades he also played basketball. By the time Kenny was 16 years old he was a volunteer in the fire department. Now, Kenny's love for trains was still high on his list, so it was a great day for him when he set up his trains in the spare room of the fire department. two-year-o- received at UVCC in Provo; and it was during this time that he learned repelling. When he was 18 years old he played Santa for the children. Each year he also helped string Christmas lights on Castle Dale's main street and take them down after the holidays.
