The actual volume of wood is around 80 cubic feet. The face cord or short cord, is four feet high and eight feet wide, but the pieces may be of any length. Keep in mind that the length could be more or less, so you should adj ust the price you pay accordingly. A "pick-u- p cord", or truck load is thought by some to be close to a cord in volume. However, given the avreage weight of a cord of hard wood (4,000 pounds), it is unlikely that many standard pickup trucks can handle that much weight one-thir- d or volume. If your cord of wood is delivered in a large pickup truck, it is probably a face cord. A large dump truck may hold several standard cords. Woodis sold in several variations of a cord measure. Usually wood is sold by the cord or fraction thereof, but there are many types of cords. These include a standard cord, face cord, long cord, solid cord and a pickup cord. Because these measurement units include the air space btween the sticks, the amount of solid wood depends upon whether the sticks are straight or crooked and the diameter of the sticks. Larger diameters of straight round or split wood, neatly andor to reserve a seat.
