Show Tf yyy Tuesday, November 17, 1992 11A Emery County Progress Mountain View Motors Is closing out every Iasi new '92 i v Board to meet this week faUNTINGTON The Emery County School Board will meet in the regularly; scheduled meeting on Nov. 18 at 7 pm. At the district office. Among the items to be discussed, the board will meet with members of the Emery work on the Americans with , Education Association on communication within the district regarding job open-- . ings. Also, the board plans to present Employee of the Month Awards. Other items on the agenda include:., consent items, the superintendents report, the business administrators report, the AASANSAB Invest in America program, and an executive session. The public is invited to attend the meeting. The board previously met on Nov. 4 at Canyon View Junior High School. Following are the minutes from that meeting: There will be an EdNet program regarding the legislative package of the Utah School Boards Association, the Utah Education Association and the Superintendents Association at 3 p.m., Nov. 17. They would like at least one board member to be available for this. ' The Utah School Board has ruled that all school districts shall run a background check on all new employees if a check has not been made in the last two years. The cost for this will be paid by the , employee. The Emery District Capital Outlay equalization program has been presented to the Superintendents Association. It will form a committee to study this and make a recommendation for the association to support with the legislature. The district has started fj'.'iwwhuj potential problem areas. The superintendent recommended that Ed Clark be sent to the national vocational conference Nov. 4 through 8 to obtain more training on requirements of the Carl Perkins Act. It was moved by Wesley Curtis and seconded by Marie Johnson that this be approved. Motion carried with a unanimous vote. Jon Crawford was welcomed to the meeting. He presented test results on grades five, eight and 11 to the board and discussed them with the board. Overall the district testing shows growth and improvement in the grades tested. The, final results will be adjusted by the state for factors and released in December. Philip Jensen reported to the board on the work done with the State Office of Education on the districts accounts payable with them and the its programs on rewarding good students for the work . socio-econom- ic they do in school Employee of the Month awards were presented to DeWayne Fowler, Betsy Johnson and Jeneane Warren. These employees were commended for the excellent job they do in the school district. The Emery County Traffic Safety Committee has met and studied proposed access routes for children walking to school. All of these plans have been approved, and it has been determined that flashing lights and crossing guards will be required in school zones in Green River, Huntington, Orangeville and Ferron. It was recommended that some lobbying be presented to the cities to give first priority to sidewalks needed by students walking to the schools. Harmony Curtis requested help with funding for her FHA trip to Albuquerque, N.M. It was moved by Philip Nelson and seconded by Marie John- anticipated prior year revenues. Both are being corrected. The vocational equipment authorized by the board has been received. The home economics equipment is installed and being utilized by students. The business compu-te- rs are being installed. Larry Abraham reported to the board on programs and staff at the Canyon View Junior High School. He indicated that he felt very good about the staff at Canyon View, and it is doing an excellent job. This years eighth grade increased test scores 15 percent over last year. The American Cancer Societys (ACS) Great American Smokeout began recently by Giving Thanks for a Smoke-Fre- e Restaurant. Frqntier Pies restaurants received an award for their Bulletin board By Amy Hodson SRJH reporter FERRON Congratulations to the eighth grade drama class and Mrs. Karpowitz who did a great job on the Veterans Day assembly. The assembly was put on twice by two different casts. Many veterans and the American Legion were at the assembly to be honored by the students. This assembly is held every year and has been going on sicne the beginning of SRJH. Last Friday we had a great victory dance in honor of the football players and volleyball players.
