While one group went to a workshop on teenage pregnancies presented by Teri Kushton, the other workshop was on preparing for marriage by Douglas L. Grogan. Mrs. Rushton is a certified FHAHERO creed and motto bv Jennifer Johansen; and then each chapter introduced of ficers and members. At 10:30, the keynote address was presented by JoAnn Arnold. She has four boys and works O' the county. the Fillmore; throughout self-estee- m School auditorium. Gwen Johansen, Emerys FHA state officer, welcomed the guests. The prayer was given by Teresa Elggren; the pledge by educator childbirth Inter-netion- through Childbirth al Education Association. THE Stream. Grogan the Chapel is the Price pastor where he has been for the last two years. He helped set up and is a member of the Price Police Chaplain Program. He was also a member of the Honolulu Police Chaplaincy for seven years. He served in the United States Air Force for four years and has appeared on the Magnum PI television series. At 12:45 the groups switched workshops. At 2 p.m. participants at- tended a nutrition workshop by Elaine Hatch, who works for Utah State Extension Service. She is a registered dietitian and does nutrition counseling at the nursing home. She. helps with the adult nutrition programs. She has a family of two girls and one boy and is active in church activities. The other workshop was on personal esteem by Carol Ann r- Tray FROM meet FHA-HER- O - Carol Ann graduated from CEU and RYU. She worked a year and a half with Boeing Air and Space Company in Seattle. She taught third grade in Wendover, married and moved to Seattle for eight months. She then moved to this area. She taught third grade for four months until her second child was born. She now has five girls and one boy. She provided day care for three years, then started her and now has 38 own pre-scho- ol four-year-o- students. ld The FHAHERO members would like to thank all the speakers, Mr. Swinburne for the use of the school, the lunch ladies and the teachers for their cooperation. Also, there were just four girls who signed up. Jamey said that she was surprised to find that the problem of smoking and chewing extends as far in the student body as it does. The group also agreed that the best way to get kids to stop smoking and chewing would be to enforce the laws which prohibit those under 18 from possessing or using tobacco products. One teenage smoker said, Kids will stop smoking and' chewing after they get caught and taken to court a few times. Those fines add up in a hurry. The efforts of getting students to sign up for the smokeout came as part of a health unit on the harmful affects of smoking and chewing. Twenty-fiv- e percent said it makes no difference, and only one percent said they preferred to date a smoker. Tree permits on sale Permits for cutting Christmas trees will go on sale at the Ferron Ranger District Office, Dec. 1, 1986, according to district ranger, John Niebergall. A limited number of permits will be available and e sold on an individual, d basis. Two cutting areas will be designated on the Ferron Ranger District. Among other things, the Lung Association has learned through a survey it conducted that three out of four teenage boys, ages 12 through 17, prefer to date girls who do not smoke. Seventy-eigpercent of teenage boys who were asked if they preferred to date a smoker or a nonsmoker replied that they preferred someone who doesnt smoke. The report also indicated that the majority of girls also prefer nonsmoking dates, but the percentage is less compared to the boys. Sixty-nin- e percent of the girls surveyed said they preferred to date boys who do not smoke. Canyon area. As of Nov. 19, both were accessible by drive standard drive or vehicles. Each family interested in cutting a Christmas tree must pick up their own permit. Only one permit per family will be allowed. Tags will be sold at the same price as last year, $3 each. Tags must be securely attached to the tree before transporting.
